i posted this on another forum and figured maybe you guys here might have some input on this as well:

-------------------------------------------------------

for the last 8 months or so, i really havent had a whole lot of dedication to the weight room. I was outta there for 4 months, and for the last 4 months, i've been averaging maybe 1 workout a week,

I guess I've decided that I just dont like lifting and it sucks, and i hate it now. The reason i did it before was mainly for sports, and later appearances but now that I'm not in sports and not as obsessed about my appearances I guess I just really dont care to lift that much.

I'm alright with simple stuff around the house like situps, pushups, pullups, curls, stuff like that, but going into the weightroom and drudging around just pisses me off.

Ironically however I have found that I really like cardio. Lately I've been doing a combination of treadmill and eliptical 7 days a week for around 30-40 minutes.

Currently I'd say that I'm 5'9" and about 168 lbs, probably 12-13% bodyfat.

I guess honestly I still wouldnt mind getting a little leaner. Like I wouldn't mind having a ripped small build, you know what i mean?

I guess what I was wondering is that since I like cardio so much, if I were to double the amount that I'm currently doing now, and say I were to just do basic things like pushups, pullups, curls, situps, etc. around the house a few nights a week,

if i were to do these things, but not make any trips to the weight room during the week, could I get the ripped six pack look?

oh and forgot to mention: My diet is in pretty good order, i eat lean meats, low glycemic carbs, and dont cheat that often.

so taking all that into account now, you think this would work?

I had the same problem awhile back, I have lifted for about 5yrs though.

Just got burned out and was in a rut. I took like 2 months off and felt like crap.

Now I'm back to lifting and running again with renewed enthusiem(sp?).

If you do basic stuff like pushups, situps etc. You'll get cut.
But you'll look and perform a lot better if you do atleast a little weight training.

In addition to losing bodyfat, you'll have to work your abs (with resistance/weight would be best) to get a six pack. About 10 years ago I had very low body fat, but no real muscle development, so even though my hip bones protruded, and I could put on 29inch 501's right out of the dryer and they weren't tight, I didn't have what I'd call a six pack.

IMO you don't need to double the cardio, just eat better and stick with the cardio you're doing to lose the weight. If you really are eating clean as you say, then you need to reduce calories and stick with what you're doing...

Have you ever seen endurance athletes? Marathon Runners and Road cyclists are cut but look like shit. they have definition but there is little left to define. There test levels plummet and all the cortisol eats up there muscle. Your six pac might be visible but it will look flat and puny as would the rest of you. You should try an explosive sport, or do some sort of weight training IMHO.

What's your weight training like??

I know that when I used to go balls to the wall with HIT training, I would'nt look forward to training at all.

Since I've backed off the intensity, I've looked forward to working out and gotten bigger beleive it or not.

I also agree with the other guys to keep with the weights.

You could always do a full body quick machine workout 3x a week if you don't like the free weight area.

Otherwise, you'll just end up a skinny stick, no definition or muscle mass either....

Yeah, but those are the extremes, an average person training to be fit wont look like that.

im on a break so to speak,if I lift its a few times a week, but I walk about 15miles a week and have been getting much leaner veins are coming out along with abs,I really dont care about being big,Im happy with 170 lean at my height, only 3 or 4 lbs to go and I should be where I want to be

You're in a rut...it happens.

Take a break....does wonders for mental focus.
