For squat and deadlift use Chuck Taylor All Stars. The flat bottom sole allows you to push your feet out instead of down. This allows you to recruit more hip and glut muscles. Also allows you to push your knees out which creates a shorter lever (range of motion). Wrestling shoes will work as well...but Converse are cheaper.
I use the only kind of athletic shoes I can find in my size...it's so hard to find a 16-17 in anything but New Balance...not the best for lifting...but they are better than barefoot when you are deadlifting where I deadlift
