this is a great thread.....

Tatyana, Mrs. BB and I have both recently started the Anabolic Diet after doing alot of research on both this forum, and many others...are you still following it??? I've noticed in previous threads that you were not a fan of low carb diets. From my understanding, most people fail at this diet because they just give up too quickly...or run out of energy and say screw it..

I was doing the typical bodybuiding diet since March...Chicken Brown rice, yam, salads, tuna..almost no fat....It worked ok when I was really Obese ( I was at 41% BF!) but now that I'm in the 22-23% range I hit a wall.... I increased cardio to 6 days a week and still little difference in my BF loss. The only really successful diet my wife was on was the Atkins diet...she lost a considerable amount of weight several years ago going low carb....

I'm hoping the AD helps get me leaner...my goal...for now is the 8-9% BF range....Thandie is yelling at me for eating Bacon!:D:D:D...God I'm loving eating bacon!

BB, No, I was not yelling at you. Just ask "what are you eating"? that's because we all know eating a high fat diet doesn't work in terms of health. However, if that's working for you, it's great!

Strangely, I'm not a huge believer in macros.

I always do P>30%, but find that in terms of body composition and training, there is little difference (for lean bulking) providing C>30%, and fat>20%. Never have tried very low carb or fat. But I do count cals. I do eat strictly though. My entire diet (well except for odd cheat) is: salmon, kangaroo, lean beef, chicken, eggs, fish oil, flaxseeds, (some but not many) nuts, milk, butternut squash, oats, sweet potato, and fibrous veggies. I do occasionally eat fruit too, but nutritionally, its not necessary (IMO) given my veggie content, and I almost always naturally meet all RDI's (except sometimes vit E)

I do seem to feel and grow better on a lot of milk however (about 1-1.5 litres per day), and well try to eat as perfectly as possible except for about once per fornight dinners out. I also try to get a 1/1-1/2 omega 3/6 ratio. These are the two only idiosyncrancies of my diet.

THE BAD:
Well I suffer from chronic headaches, occasionally get depressed by them, and will go extreme binges as a result at times. I'm suffer who can really eat any quantity of food - 2 pizzas easily. Strangely, cereal with fruit is a common binge. Having said that, the binges have never been sufficiently frequent to ruin my bf in a longlasting way.

Desmond,
I used to have chronic headaches when I was younger, I used to also have lots of dairy products. Once I stop having dairy, I never had headaches again. I was told by a Dr. that dairy was the reason for my headaches. I could be the only person on the planet with that issue, but maybe you could look into that.

Thandie...I was teasing....I didn't mean you were like really yelling at me :D:D:D....I know from your log that you are very clean with your diet....I wish I was as dedicated :)........I just can't get the moderate carb thing to work for me....even with increase carb......I'm pretty anal about regualr check ups and blood work....what concerned me was that my Cholestrol went UP on a low fat medium carb diet...by 30 points!(argh!) went from 170 to 200...

If you had a high fat diet, then switched to low/moderate fat, your system was probably still saturated with the high fat. That's probably for the cholesterol issue.
When people say they have increased carbs or even high/low fat, the only way to determine how high or low you are is to count your macros. You might have thought you were in a higher carb diet, but most likely your fat was high or protein was too high. too much carbs is not good either because it will turn into fat.
It has to be balanced.
I'm by no means trying to change your diet, but if you go on a too high fat or too low fat, sooner or later it will back fired. Your body can not live with such extremes. So, you'll find yourself going from one diet to the next.

Just my two pennies -

The anabolic diet is a great way to learn to diet and can be very effective at teaching your body to burn fat first. However with that said you CAN NOT cheat on the anabolic diet. Eat one carb during the week and you start all over. It is really a diet for the advanced (which I see that you are). Most women who do the anabolic diet are looking to bulk.

Now, I too like Thandie am a strong proponent for learning to eat sustainably healthy. Meaning learn how to eat for life. No diets or short term eating habits unless you have a very specific short term goal - like bulking or extreme cutting. I find that counting macros works best long term, specifically for women. We often - due to emotions and hormones - often overeat fat or carbs - even within our calorie intake. Learn your macros, create a diet that you enjoy and learn to make great choices within your limits.

I think I read that Mrs. BB is also doing the anabolic diet. It will be fun to watch her progress. I think it had lots of advantages.

I am doing the anabolic diet right now, and I quite like it.

You can use it to diet, one of the advantages is that you can really work out your carb loading.

I am using the anabolic diet for bulking, although I find that I am keeping my calories quite low (for me) at around 2000 kcals/day.

anabolic diet? never heard of it kindly explain it here... i have tried all the Diet Pills and they have resulted in good results. any help from would be greatly appreciated
