NOT TRUE!!! I live in Northern California and John Ashcroft and the "justice department" just showed California who's who. They busted the guy in Oakland, California who was growing it for the City of Oakland's medical marijuana program. He was operating under license from the City of Oakland, Ca. to do so and was completely operating in the open. During the trial, the jury was never allowed to know that he was growing Medical Marijuana and the judge narrowly restricted the discussion to "he was growing marijuana." They were also not allowed to hear anything about the medical marijuana program, etc. that might tip them off as to the purpose of the marijuana. It seems that the Feds were quite intent on "making the point." And they certainly succeeded as the jury convicted him of violating Federal Law. After the trial, when members of the jury found out what he was growing it for, they were very angry and many said that they would never have convicted him if they had known this. They felt betrayed by the system. He is now serving a prison sentance for this and the medical marijuana program for the City of Oakland is shut down. This just happened in the last couple of months in case no one read it in the so called "mainstream media."
Under the Clinton administration and democratic attorney general Janet Reno, the Feds choose to look the other way on this issue. But once the fascist republicans took control, that policy was immediately reversed. Seems like they agree with states rights only as long as the state goes along with the way THEY think the world should be. As soon as a state does something different like medical marijuana or assisted suicide (Oregon) then it is immediately to direct Federal control. Personally, I don't see why ANYONE should be put in prison at tax payers expense for smoking a joint. I totally agree with Oregon in that they didn't make it legal but "decriminalized it" which means it is a misdemeanor offense punishable by a modest fine. How does putting a person in prison for growing medical marijuana or putting a person in prison for something as minor as smoking a joint make society a safer place? How exactly do they pose a threat so serious to society that they must be separated from society by imprisonment. Somehow this thinking makes me feel a whole lot LESS safe, personally even though I don't even smoke pot but it does carry over to all kinds of other issues. The only issue I can see is "driving under the influence" of any substance that can impair your ability to drive, which California motor vehicle codes already address.
As for medical marijuana, the Justice Department and RepublicaNazi John Ashcroft have made it PERFECTLY clear that it is against Federal law (which, in fact, it is) and that they WILL prosecute and show the rest of us who's who! What is particularly sad is that they stupidly claim that there is a prescription drug, i.e. Marinol which supposedly takes the "active ingredient" for marijuana that makes it effective for treating nausea induced by chemotherapy, etc. Problem that they forget to tell you is that it is VERY hard for a person to hold down an orally administered "pill" when they are having projectile vomiting from heavy duty chemotherapy. And to make it worse, they have to hold it down for something like two hours for it to be effective. Like GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! That is completely retarded!!!! Smoking a joint completely by- passes the issues of having to swallow and hold down a pill in the patient's stomach. It also starts taking effect within ten minutes as it crosses directly from the lungs into the blood where it exerts its effect thus giving very rapid relief to the patient instead of having to suffer addtional hours before getting some relief, provided you can even hold it in long enough. Seems like a no brainer to me but then again, I have come to realize that there are a lot of republican supporters on here which seems weird considering the RepublicaNazi stand on this and many other in your face "personal" issues that should not be any of their business like using many of the supplements that guys/women talk about for bodybuilding in quantities for personal use. The fascist answer to everything seems to put you in jail. So that is why I use such a harsh term. As long as they are going to behave like fascists, I will continue to refer to them as such. I don't see much hope in things changing for the better as long as people keep electing these assholes to power either.
