Ladies would Ya'll Please Explain Womens Clothing Sizes to Me? It makes no sense

I just don't get it. I mean how could anyone be size 0? I mean what happens when you get smaller than 0 then do you go into negative numbers? How could somebody be a negative size?

I mean where did ladies sizes come from in the first place. Was it one those fruit cake clothing designer's idea or what? I mean why don't ya'll just use inches? Then it would be easier for us guys to buy ya'll stuff... :D

We can't explain it because we don't understand it either!

Also, there has been "size inflation" in recent years, because women (strange creatures that they are) prefer to buy smaller sizes.

Used to be that the size equated to an actual measurement. Like a size "4" pants fit 34" hips. Now a typical size 2 fits 34" hips. A size 0 - 33". If smaller than that, some makers have size 00, but if not, check out the children's dept, hire a good seamstress or GET SQUATTING and build a fricken ass :D

Sizes/measurements can vary among clothing manufacturers. Most catalogs have a size chart, so if you know the bust, waist, and hip measurements, you can pretty much guess what size you should buy (but even that's not a guarantee).

You know, i never understood it either...I don't care what size i am, if i am out shopping and i hold up a pair of pants or dress, i'll just say, hey it looks like it'll fit and go try it on without even looking at the size. And size 0 is ridiculous...it's like some sort of status symbol...my sister was so happy when she fit into a size 0 and was bragging about it to everyone... but i was like..."you look sick"

yup, female sizing is crazy!

more depends on body type and what you are buying! My waist is much smaller than my hips, so if i were to buy a very straight skirt, I'd wear a larger size than a fitted skirt...etcetc

most females are a different size on the top than on the bottom as well!

Wow, I never knew that! Interesting...

And yeah, tell me about it, I gotta try on all my clothes even if I think I wear a certain size cause each brand is made/cut differently! But most times I can wear either an 8 or 9 in jeans. I don't even care what size I wear anymore, I used to, but I gave up trying to fit into small sizes when I gave up caring what weight I am according to the scale. Most people don't believe my weight or clothing sizes anyway, they think I'm smaller, works for me.

I didn't realize the odd sizes were junior's sizes either. I don't pay much attention to that stuff cause to me the bottom line is whether it looks like it'll fit or not and if it actually does. Yeah, women's sizes are too complicated to try and figure out. I figure just try it on and if it fits, great, if not, try the next size.

You women should stage a boycott against the clothing manafactures and say you are not going to buy anything until manafactures switch to inches.

These are amerikan sizes remember. In the Netherlands the numbers keep going higher as you become a woman. They do not begin again at 0 for adult sizes. Only a tiny baby could be a 0.

There are not all these crazy catagories either. I wear maat (size) 34 in europe. I dont know in amerika what this is. I have 27 inches legs and 27 inches waist and a very round ass from deep squating for 15 years so i guess it would be a farily big size here.

And what is the idea of these crazy little clothes. I pick up a shirt here that has XL in the tag and I see i could not get even one arm in that thing....Amerikan women are not dwarfs.

Sizing

Yeah I know, in Canada, I think a size 0 is about a 23"-24" waist and 32" hips....I dunno...Ive actually SEEN a -1.....which I think is stupid, because that person should probably be in the children's section. I think if a girl is already like that, well, let her be. Im petite, and work out..(mind you, Im not a size 0!), but if a girl tries to ACHIEVE such a low dress size, she's got problems. You should be happy with the body you have. (You can work out to change it a little though ;)

0,2,4,6,8,...are women's cuts

1,3,5,7,9....are "junior" cuts (narrower hip etc...)

prior to those sizes are girls sizes which range from 4 or 5 to some size I can't remember (because I wore it too long ago), and then on to 0 women's.

Junior sizes are also cut narrower in the shoulder and bust, too, though the waist sizes are comparable. (i.e. a 5 and 6 have the same waist size, but the 5 has a narrower shoulder and bust.) There may be some differences in inseam on pants, but at 5'4" I've never noticed them. :)

Girl's sizes run 7-14, though some some manufacturers make a 16 too, although judging from the cut and styles it looks to me like 14 & 16's are usually made for husky 12 year olds. Most 14 & 16 year olds wear junior's sizes.

For women who end up buying in the girl's department (and I used to be one of them, not cause I was anorexic, just small) there is a sad lack of decent styles to chose from, unless you don't MIND wearing a T-shirt that says "Boy Crazy" or "NSync". At 38, I think I'd better not. :) Also, they can be too short or have daisies on them, etc, and not enough room in the shoulders.

That's where the 0 and 00 comes in. Many women of my acquaintance are only 4'10" - 5'4" and when they are proportional need a smaller size. Of course, there ARE petite sizes, which are also cut smaller than the corresponding "misses" size (i.e. a normal 6 requires an 8 petite), but they can be hard to find.

But - yes, they did "inflate" the sizes a couple of years ago for misses. They didn't inflate the junior sizes. So, if you wear a 6 misses, be prepared to look for a 9/11 in the juniors department (if you have any tits or ass to speak of).
