my girlfreind is going through somehting really crazy and im not sure what it is. she wakes up in the morning with pinz and needles all over her body and her heart pounding. at one point we were at the ER 3 days in one week. we think it was birth control that did it cause when she got on it is when it started to happen. they though it was depression so they prescibed her prozac. after three days on ither anxiety got worse. i have never been so nervous in my life. we woke up one morning and she was having muscle spasms. i mean her whole body not just a little one, almost seizure like but not a one. again to the ER they giver her some valuim and she feels better. they teel her to get off of the prozac cause it worsening the problem. she is fine for like 2 weeks the boom she wakes up depressed and sad and crying over nothing.

sorry for the long thread there is more but to get to my question. this seem like it will never stop and doctors are blowing it off like tis nothing but she is not getting better. she has no sex drive and doesnt feel like herself. is there is specific kind of doctor we could go to? like horomon specialist or something? has anyone else gone through this? she on her period and her discharge is dark brown. all answers are greatly appreciated

Good grief, she started birth control -- I'm assuming it's hormonal -- and this started? And the idiot doctors are treating her for DEPRESSION??? This is not rocket science here: GET HER OFF THE BIRTH CONTROL ASAP, AND DO NOT PUT MORE DRUGS INTO HER! God I hope it wasn't the shot ... What's going on with her period should be clue enough for you guys.

Look, some of women just can't take synthetic hormones, that's all there is to it. I'm one of them, I nearly killed myself -- literally, I almost stepped off a cliff -- the one month I was on BC pills. I went just about as crazy as I've ever been, crying jags, blind rages, hysterical laughter, in addition to gaining 25 pounds in three weeks. Sex is the least of your worries right now. Get her OFF synthetic hormones and prescription drugs. Assuming she was sane and healthy before the birth control: get her off the birth control and other drugs, get her ON a good multivitamin/mineral complex (something you buy in a health food store), and a B 100 complex IMMEDIATELY. It might be a good idea to put her on natural progesterone cream too, just for the next couple of months, until her body rebalances, you'd get that at the health food store too.

Wow! The depression and all of that I can easily see as a result of some sort of hormone thing. Prozac is not the quickie fix either. I have no experience like that except I experience one day / month usually the day before my period starts where I just want to sit and cry for no apparent reason, and my period has been pretty much by the book since I was 16. I do experience sort of "heavy" side effects of it every month, but it is predictable.

Has she never been on b/c before? Like MM said above, I'd stay the hell away from depo provera - that's a way crazy, very "estrogenic" form of birth control (the shot). The thing about b/c is that whatever dose you are on has to work with your own personal body chemistry (i.e. your hormone balance between estrogen & progesterone). And then add in any specific issues, including testosterone level as well that all go together to balance things. If you throw in the wrong dose, your whole body chemistry, moods, everything gets fucked up.

I'd start back w/ the doc who prescribed the b/c and start from scratch. And yes get off whatever she is on now just to start w/ a clean slate and not deal w/ the stuff she's going thru now.

Good luck we all will send good thoughts for you. These are the things that can make being female just a fucking nightmare sometimes. :( Let us know how it goes!

But it all seems to have started when she started b/c? Only thing I can think there is that because the whole cycle is a 28 day (or whatever it is) thing .. .1 month, any b/c you are on usually needs a full cycle to run -- i.e. if you stop taking the pills mid-cycle then your hormone cycle is sort of left hanging & might flip out a bit until it completes one complete cycle. Sometimes might need 2.

she is accually going through her secone cycle as we speak. the doctor put her on paxil but i dont think that she needs it. i think she needs some some type of horomon supplimentation or something alone those lines....but we need to figure out what horomon exactly she is lack

she is accually going through her second cycle as we speak. the doctor put her on paxil but i dont think that she needs it. i think she needs some type of horomon supplimentation or something alone those lines....but we need to figure out what horomon exactly she is lacking or which is dominating

Definitely agree that's the next step. If possible get off the paxil too, unless the depression is pretty intense. I've heard things like Evening Primrose (OTC usually in your local grocery store or drug store) helps w/ 'menstrual' things. Might be something to check out just to try while the bigger testing is going.

Okay, wait a minute, is she on Birth Control pills or not?

Like sassy said, it takes time to rebalance your body. PLEASE, AT LEAST PUT HER ON THE B 100 VITAMINS! Those are harmless, a water soluble vitamin (they just make your pee bright yellow) sometimes birth control depletes the hell out of your B vitamin stores, a shortage in those vitamins can make some people hysterical, very edgy, very moody, very nuts.

Some folks don't just pop right back, it can take several months. And going on and off antidepressants is just going to make things worse. She isn't going to know if she's coming or going.

If she was a normal, well balanced (physically and mentally) individual until the time she went on birth control there's nothing WRONG with her, her body just needs to be permitted to rebalance itself. I'm telling you, assuming she's a normal, healthy young woman the only hormone she may need is natural progesterone cream for the next month or so, in addition to the vitamins, to aid her body in rebalancing itself.

Standard hormone tests are really ineffective to measure sex hormone levels in women unless they are salivary assays run for a full month, and generally speaking they're not called for in women who aren't perimenopausal. A woman's hormones can fluctuate from hour to hour in a single day.
