Knees hurt after leg workout

Goldark

After 2 years now, this is the first time that I can recall that my knees hurt after doing legs, particularly after squatting. Is this normal? Should I take some time off doing legs? I haven't changed my form at all, it just happened suddenly. I don't want to risk injury to my knees either. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I can't say why they're suddenly begun to hurt but I'd suggest playing around with your foot spacing and amount of flare to you feet and legs until you find something more comfortable. If you're squatting ATF then don't relax out at the bottom as, I find, that stretches out the knee which can be uncomfortable. Keep yourself tight at the bottom.

are you squatting all the way down (ATF) or are you trying to stop when your thighs are parallel to the ground? stopping puts a LOT of stress on the knee and can lead to pain.

if you are going all the way down, try adjusting your stance.. put your feet out in front of you a bit more.. point your toes slightly in or out... adjust the width of your feet.. etc.

Sounds like the evils of the past two years have caught up with you!

SKIP your next leg training workout to give the sore tendons a break. It is most likey a chronic issue becuse it's in both knees. Your thigh muscles are tight and theerefore will always have tension runing through them, and need to relax and lengthen to relieve the soreness. Do light non-impact cardio every other day and STRETCH your lower back, hips hamstrings and quads.

Swim twice a week to keep your muscles loose and joints healthy.

I just got over chronic knee problems using the advice given above. It's a pain in the ass to stretch and swim, but I feel a different man for doing it!
