Ketosis and Weight Training

Hey guys

First off...so excited because I've been doing my best to follow a ketogenic diet and yesterday night when i peed on one of those ketosis sticks, I was in the darkest zone....I'm thrilled!!!!! :twirl:

However, I've noticed that because I have been strict my strength has decreased when lifting weights...my shoulder press (30lbs dumb bells each) has now decreased to 25lbs in each hand and I feel like this is kind of a set-back.

Does anyone have any ideas???

Thanks!
Truly,

Hey sweety, its normal for your strength to go down on the ketogenic diet. Its hard to stick with it unless you have proper ingredients. What are your goals, just to loose fat and keep muscle?..this diet isn't for everyone, but to cut up its' really good.

just keep your carb intake really low, and don't restrict calories too much since your switching fuel intake from carbs to fats. The thing that helped me the most was Xenendrine, to prevent from crazy cravings, and if you want once a week do a carb up day, but don't go crazy cause you might say screw it and forget about the diet.

BUt yea the first 4 days you may feel weak, but then you'll get used to it...Don't worry about weights, once your body gets used to it you'll be up and going again....good luck

Hey Guys

Str8, you were right....my body's adjusted to this type of diet and i'm back on track :p

Thanks for all your assistance

This period of "adjusting to the diet" -- this is the point where the body has now gone looking to ketones for its energy source instead of carbs? How long does that take and does it only need to occur once as you start the keto diet? I guess the other part is to get good sources of fat and enough fat to maintain energy as well?

I've read a lot about keto diets, tried to start a few times, but never focused on what I was trying to achieve from them. Its easy to get all worked up on going all out - i.e. you can't expect to have killer intense workouts while on a keto diet simply because you don't have the carbs to support that sort of workout. I.e. you can only cut, and not bulk with this sort of diet.

All I can say is dieting sucks LOL!

Yes sassy, this is the point where the body is looking for new energy source, which is fat. REmember, because your on a low carb diet, that means your body is constatnly burning fat because you aren't supplying your body with carbs for energy, but just because you are constanlty burning fat, that doesn't mean your burning body fat. You still have to cut calories to a significant amount to loose fat. BUT....when one first begins this diet, you dont' have to count calories. Because your body is going through a drastic change in energy source, you will burn fat. It's only after a certain period of time that you have to adjust your caloric intake in order to get more shredded ect...

ok, about the energy in the gym. From what i understand, you will never have 100% max energy from fat like you do with carbs. There is a way to let your body get used to it and you won't feel lazy and tired, but your not going to get those pumps like you do with carbs. Thats why ketosis diets are good for cutting, as long as you provide your body with enough protein, calories, fats, (anobolic steroids :p ), you can go on an ultra low carb diet and not loose any muscle and shred up without the hours and hours of cardio.

So in a nutshell, its a diet best for cutting, not for building muslce mass, i dont see myself buildking muscle in this diet, unless i add extra carbs and have like a balance between fats and carbs and thats a whole other thread....hope this helps somewhat sweety...

P. S...this is how i feel about dieting:redhot::bawling: :bawling:

When I cut carbs, I only eat one large pan pizza.... :p

good strategy. I remember one day i couldn't take it any more and i ran home and drank almost a gallon of apple juice...oooooh, sweet sweet sweet sugar....how my body needs you :D

By the way, if your sticks are showing very dark--drink more water. You should aim for a much lighter hue. It doesn't really matter if you show only faintly--ketosis is ketosis.
