keto questions

tlhc

New member
i know about the keto diet quite some time now, nevertheless i keep learning new things every day

i thought about doing a keto diet just with eggs and flax seed oil, would that be okay?
i thought about approx. 15 eggs/day fried or cooked

that would be 15 grams of carbs, but that's okay i think

my problem is that i would prefer to eat those 15 eggs splitted up in 3 meals with 5 eggs each, or even 2 meals with 7/8 eggs each, because often i don't have the time to prepare 2 eggs every hour.

in addition i keep feeling damn hungry when doing this 2 eggs/hour thing, but when i eat 5-8 eggs in one serving i'm filled up for several hours,......

thx in advance

How much do you weigh? Unless you're pretty small, that's probably not going to be enough calories. An egg has between 65-75 calories depending on how big it is.. That means that 15 of them is maybe 1000-1100 calories. You're going to have to take a lot of flax oil to get your calories up to a reasonable level. Now if you're small enough that 1400-1500 calories is enough for you, then I'd say it's ok. I mean, you'll get tired of eating just eggs, but from a dietary standpoint, they have a good enough fat/protein ratio as long as you are adding other fat as you said. I wouldn't reccomend this approach, but I can't say that there's anything wrong with it. That's my opinion. I'd be interested in hearing what Mr. X has to say on this one.

i weigh 160 lbs
i don't know exactly what my bf is but i'm sure that it's around 14-16%

i'm pretty small, 170cm (i'm male)

i thought that one eggs is around 100 cals, that would be 1500 + the cals from the oil = around 2000 cals

mr. x ??? :)

If you weigh 160lbs, assuming you are working out at least 3 or 4 days a week, and doing cardio at least 2 or 3 days a week, I'd say you should stay between 1700-1825 calories a day. I'd change it up so you aren't eating the same amount each day. Then maybe 2100 calories on your carb up day. These numbers aren't going to be exact, because until you do this you won't really know your metabolic rate. If you want more exact numbers, Mr. X has laid out % for each day you can follow. Use 1920 as your BMR in his equations, and then adjust that if you aren't losing at the rate you want. Remember that if you eat too few calories, your body will slow down, and you will ultimately hinder your fat loss.

that just wouldn't be enough for me... I would be
hungry all day...

i think that you could eat more eggs... the eggs are
free foods and from what I've read the carb in each
doesn't really count.

I've eaten 12 eggs before and still had my 20 grams of
carbs in addition and been in ketosis...

I have also often wondered about how important it is to have multiple meals instead of one or two big ones. I know Lyle Mcdonald says it doesn't matter if you have 5 or 2 meals (as long as cals stay the same) based on the research he has read. However, he discourages only 1 meal per day but I've often wondered about this situation and hopefully someone here can offer some insight.

its weird... I absolutely love eggs... scrambled, over easy,
omlettes...

BUT I HATE HARD BOILED EGGS... the taste like SHIT

I think the original question was if you can eat 15eggs split in 3 meals of 5 eggs. Yes, you can. But, your calories are far too low, in turn, you will eventually cause your body to go into metabolic slowdown and hinder fat-loss. Follow a low deficit from your BMR:

6/1 ratio (6 days in ketosis/1 day carb-up)
Figure out your BMR...(basal-metabolic-rate)=caloires needed to maintain current weight
weight x 12=BMR....160lb x 12=1920 cal a day
Try the following fat/protein ratios w/ BMR deficit:
Day:
1-> 85%fat/15%protein-- BMR-5%
2-> 80%fat/20%protein-- BMR-10%
3-> 80%fat/20%protein--BMR-20%
4-> 75%fat/25%protein--BMR
5-> 70%fat/30%protein--BMR-10%
6-> 80%fat/20%protein--BMR-20%
7-> (CARB-UP) BMR+10/15% (you can go up to 20% if you'd like, but I wouldn't recommend it)

These are rule-of-thumb ratios for CKD. I would like to add that it's obvious that you need more calories, try adding EFA's to supplement for the extra calories:
EFA's like: flaxseed oil, sesamese seed oil, sunflowerseed oil, grapeseed oil, olive oil, peanut oil

Mr.X :cool:

thanks for the infos guys

i'll up my egg-intake :) to 17-18 eggs a day and i'll add more EFAs in order to consume enough calories

i simply love eggs too, that's why i thought about this egg-only diet,

i'm only worried about the carb content, but i hope cozmokramer is right that it can't be counted

anyways, i won't consume 30 eggs a day, so i don't need to worry about the carbs :)

maybe i try what iceman said and hard-boil some eggs so that i can eat more than 3 meals a day....
