Summers' appointment to economic advisor is invariant of whatever his decade old speech was about. I remember reading about that years ago. I thought it was that US men did better statistically than US women in math in sciences (but in Iceland women do better than men in math and science), not that women were innately bad at either.
As an aside, a US woman going through hormone therapy to become a man reported becoming better at and more interested in math and science after being pumped full of testosterone for a few months.
