It's Harder to lose weight after a period of mass-building

I have always hovered around 195-205lb at 6 ft tall. For my army fitness test I'm supposed to weigh no more than 203. I usually cut down on the food and increase the cardio to get under 200 with no problem.

This past year I have concentrated on lifting as heavy as possible and added some serious muscle to my legs and upper body, and it was VERY difficult to drop my weight down compared to in the past. I used a lot of creatine and got up to 212 at one time.

I like being big, but if it is that hard to drop 10 pounds when I need to, maybe I'd better give up the creatine.

Any tips on how to drop the fat and keep the muscle quick? I hate to lose gains just to make weight for the army.

Didn't you wrestle in high school? The answer is plastics. Run 5 miles in a plastic suit for a couple of days. Sleep in the plastics. Don't drink very much water. That should cut 10lbs really easily and quickly.

It sounds like you are basically building base muscle and noticing muscle maturity. The longer the muscle is there...the harder it is to get rid of . Quick gains go quickly...slow gains go slowly.

Diet hard, watch your intake carefully.

Thanks for the advice.

Grizz the thing is we take the PT test the same day we get weighed, so if I did what you suggest I'd be in no shape to excel on the test.

I agree with what you said bfold, I must have been successful in my muscle gains, but I don't want to lose it.

I will have to observe a strict diet weeks out from my test probably in order to get my weight down by losing fat, not muscle.

hey man i'm getting ready to physical for the navy and am in the exact same situation... (6', roughly 205 for quite some time -- bf% unknown, but not *too* high, but also not *too* low)... i got on crum's diet (restricted carb, except postworkout) and i've lost 19 lbs in about 3 weeks (i was 211, now 192) and am just about ready -- i know that some of this weight is water weight, but so what, the scale doesn't know that and i am also performing fine at the gym still (not making huge gains or anything, but stayin pretty steady)... anyways... good luck man!
