We understand you're a Pittsburg fan but don't be stupid with comments like that.Hassleback is a solid player and has very good accuracy.Give credit when its due.......He took his team to the super bowl so he deserves a little credit imo.

I am not sure when he has exactly proven himself... not saying that Ben is 100% proven, but in his short 2 year career he has proven more than Hasslebeck. All I remeber of Hasslebeck is the "We want the ball and we are going to score!"... Oops... INT...lol.

Using the proven QB logic, Steelers should have lost to Indy and Denver. I think Hasslebeck is a nice mediocre QB. He used to be the type of QB that would lose you games, but he seems to have controlled that a bit. I would rate him a hair above Plummer.... but that is a close call.

FACT: Pittsburgh lost 5 games while Seattle lost 3. BUT...only 2 with Ben healthy. Maddox lost 2 and they lost to Indy after Ben returned from 4 games off. If Ben were healthy, Steelers beat Jacksonville and Baltimore, finish 13-3, win the north and are probably the #2 seed.

FACT: Steelers ended the season with the 5th ranked Strength of Schedule. Seattle finished with the 30th ranked SOS. Only the Bears and Packers faced teams with fewer wins. Seattle has not beaten a team with a winning record since Nov. 27 (gotta subtract the Colts since they rested most of their team)

FACT: Steelers beat the #1, #2 and #3 seeds....on the road. Seattle beat the #5 and #6 seeds....at home. The Seahawks have not played a team as good as the Steelers all year. The Steelers have beaten two teams in the past two weeks who are arguably both better than the Seahawks.

FACT: Steelers have not allowed more than 105 yards rushing in any of its past 7 games....and are allowing only 76.5 yards/game during this 7-0 win streak.

Seattle is a good team, no doubt. But if you want to predict a victory, try doing it with logical facts that are not so easily picked apart!

Seattle has 4 sacks over its past 2 games. Steelers have 12 over its past three. The Steelers front 7 are a much more imposing group. The Seahawks have gone 15-32 on 3rd down conversions over the past 2 games. The key to Seattle's success during the playoffs has been the ability to keep the opponents from converting 3rd downs. Washington and Carolina went a combined 6 for 28. The Steelers have converted 22 of its 41 3rd down conversions. The problem for Seattle is that the Steelers will convert 3rd downs. They have done it regularly during this 7-0 win streak. If Seattle cannot hold the Steelers to 30% or so on 3rd downs (and they don't have the secondary to do this), then they are in a world of trouble. There are FAR more reasons to why the Steelers should win this game than there are why the Seahawks should.

Actually the line moves because of lop sided bets. The line has stayed close to the original which means the betting has been pretty even for both teams.

Yes it is an opinion, but one based on the truth. If Ben plays in the Jacksonville and Baltimore game, they win easily. Anyone who watched the games would agree. Sure it isn't a fact, but it is 99.9% true.

BTW, word is that Seattle is practicing the shotgun formation, which they have not used all season. Looks like Pittsburgh is already in their heads. As I recall Manning and Plummer were getting routinely assraped in the shotgun, so I doubt it will matter.

QB played against one of the Super Bowl teams (Pittsburgh) and for the other (Seattle).

Dilfer faced the Pittsburgh Steelers this season and got beat pretty good by them, 34-21. Dilfer then watched Charlie Frye try to play as the Steelers put a 41-0 pasting on the Browns in the season's penultimate game. That loss was so bad that when Dilfer was asked if he wanted to go in the game to help, he said yes, at first, but it reaches a point where the quarterback who starts has to take his lumps and finish.

This 75-21, two-game disparity would seem to indicate that Dilfer thinks the Steelers are a clear favorite in Super Bowl Big Letters.

Not so.

"I think Seattle's a better team than Pittsburgh," Dilfer said. And it's not because of his close friendship with Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. 'I think a lot of people take my opinion of Seattle as biased, but I don't think that I am," he said. "I think I can look at it objectively.'

The "X" factor for Dilfer is his friend, Hasselbeck. Dilfer said Hasselbeck should be considered with Tom Brady of New England and Peyton Manning of Indianapolis among the league's best three. His rating of 98.2 ranked fourth in the league. But right ahead of him? Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (98.6). 'Ben is playing great, better than I've ever seen him play,' Dilfer said. I don't think it will move too much. At 3.5 to 4, that will allow those that think Pitt to win outright in a close one to bet on Seattle with the points. I saw national poll and 67% think Pitt will win... You figure about 15-20% feel it will be close, so the spread currently where it is, will take care of evening it out.

The Ravens did handle the Zone Blitz pretty well, but since the Steelers play them 2-3 times a year, their o-line is very familiar with it. Seattle won't be. As for Hasslebeck not doing stupid things... not sure what he has been watching. In the Redskins game I saw him do two things not even a rookie QB would do. He got away with it, but he is sort of dumbfuck from what I have seen.

They haven't handled the 3-4 well all year, so I am not sure how all of sudden they are going to handle the best one in football.

I totally agree... I look for them to go deep and try to torch Ike or Deshea. Or at least get a Pass Interference penalty. Seattle has to come out smoking to compete.

there are no fucking "weak" schedules in the NFL
everyone of those players on the field is playing for money,career,pension etc,etc
there is no fucking lay down in this leaque

I agree with you to a point, but it certainly helps to not play any division winners and then get 6 games against the Cards. 49ers and a slumping Rams team. Alexander this season got 820 of his yards playing those teams.

Against Dallas, the only good 3-4 they played he had 61. It makes a difference.

The Salary cap has definitely effected depth. I mean, Steve Young sat the freaking bench and everyone knew he was a stud... that will not happen today.

I am just fucking with ya... I am not too into the statistical crap either. Honestly, I feel Pittsburgh has just been on a terror and they have momentum. I think it carries through to the Superbowl. Just because the stats seem to support that, is coincidental.

When did the pendulum swing back to the AFC. I used to watch a lot of NFL when the 49ers were dominating and for a few years after. The NFC was way stronger than the AFC.
 
Steelers would be a huge favorite if they went 13-3 or 14-2.

They totally outplayed the #1, #2, and #3 seeds in the strongest conference.

So I have decided that Pittsburgh will likely rout the Hawks.

If the Hawks win however, I shall have to direct you to my earlier posts where I predicted that.

I can not lose.

Even though I do like Seattle, I kind of get enjoyment out of watching Tasselbutt kiss the grass. ;)
 
Thank God the Seahawks, and the NFC for that matter, sucked ass this year. Steelers played a C+ game and still won by 11. I know that people will dispute Ben's TD even though it was clear he broke the plane of the EZ (Would not have mattered they would have pounded it in on 4th down anyway) and the pushing off in the Endzone call was a bit ticky tacky, but 9-10 times that call is made... Really there was no reason for the receiver to push off, he would have made the play anyway... Hope was flatfooted.

Ben played atrocious. He made a few plays when it counted (3rd and 28 pass), but he looked a bit overwhelmed. Good thing he saved his worse for the weakest team they played in the playoffs.

Definately not Pittsburgh's finest hour. But a couple of things I noticed:

1) The Seahawks had speed. Not that I watched any of their games this year, but in the opening series they blew Pittsburgh away.

2) The Seattle offensive pass interference in the endzone was BS

3) Big Ben made a gutsy play on that long pass to Ward at the goal line. I would have had to go back and eat my words about his passing performance - but then he floats a duck from 8 yards out for an interception. Why the heck not give the ball to Bettis to ground and pound it into the endzone?

4) Ben's diving TD, Hasselback's fumble (diving forward) = plays that needed review. Refs made the right calls.


Steelers got real lucky with their performance. Had Seattle got a break on a call (or two) and made a field goal - Pittsburgh is trying to come from behind. And that is not the scenario they would wanted to have been in with their lack of a running game.

The Pushing off was a BS call, but it is one I see called all the time. And he clearly did push off... Really the receiver should have never did it... it was unnescessary.

Great teams make their own luck... They made 3 big offensive plays and Seattle made zero. That was the difference in the game.

Well, what do you expect? Rather than questioning Holmgrem's poor clock management and Hasslebeck's INT thrown into triple coverage... you focus the refs. The Steelers have dealt with poor officiating all year... a good coach readies his players for the worst and prepares them... you can tell Holmgrem was dwelling on it and that attitude permeated the team. You never see Cowher dwelling on that shit during a game.

Either way... this game will be remebered for El's TD pass and Willie's 75 yard run... not poor officiating.
