Is it overtraining to do a sets of squats every second day?

I workout ever second day. Workout like this:

Chest Day

Rest Day

Arms Day

Rest Day

Shoulders Day

Rest Day

I dont want a leg day, but was wondering if I could just do squats during every workout so I dont have to devote a day to legs?

Drop arms. Drop shoulders.

Instead, replace them with a leg day and a back day. Legs are one of the most taxing body parts to work, if not THE most taxing.

Uhm… doing squats every second day is too much. As good as an exercise as it is, you need to do more for your legs. You have also seemed to have left out any sort of back exercises. What are your goals here? To have a big chest , big arms, and big shoulders?

It all depends on how intense and heavy you are squatting. If you are squatting light weight it would probably be hard to overtrain but if your going intense and heavy it would be a bad idea to train them every second day. Most people need at least 5 days in between to recover properly.

I would suggest doing Sqats Once per week and a Leg Press of some sort once a week for leg workouts. To develop great legs you should also include leg extensions, leg curls and calf raises.

Doh, I forgot to put in there a back day. I have one though. I cannot squat that much because I dont have any kind of rack, so safety is a factor. I squat around 100pounds, so its not like I go crazy with the weight.

five days rest is bullshit.

there are so many factors involved.

how many sets? how many reps? work till failure?, strength or size?

for two months i squated 3-4 times a week and made more gains than ever. some days i squated twice with 6 hours rest

only did three sets of five.

calves o death, squats and dead lifts mate. thats it. unless you are a bodybuilder.

the mann:
I was just challenging the 5 day rest myth. you can exercise a body part more than once a week.

hundreds(more like several) of studies have proved that exercising a body part more than 3 times a week causes substantial strength increases compaired to once a week.

but the studies analized strength.....not muscle size.

it all depends on what you want to achieve.

It is not a mater of intensity......its a matter of volume.

a lower volume requires a shorter rest period. such a low volume program composed of low sets and low rep/heavy weights.....requires only 24hours rest (with a nice two or three day break once a week)

take a look at any weightlifting program from europe, or any athlete who does weights......and i bet they work out legs more than once a week......and often more than once a day.

Body builders on the other hand.........

as i said before depends on your goals.

that's cool endpoint, and i know what you're saying.all the new powerlifting usa mags are starting to touch on this also, where athletes are benching three times a week and even westside(which is how i train)they have a speed bench and ME bench, but the only reason i say (on this board) legs once a week,is cause mostly BB are here looking for mass not really strenghth training, but you are right and it is important that you have pointed that out also.thanks for your input.
