Is it necessary to continually up the poundages to grow?

I would't say 50g is the number, but there's gotta be some limit. I mean, say you managed to scarf down 1000 calories in one sitting (some weight gainer shakes provide for this many calories). Do you actually think your body would be able to digest/absorb everything? Most likely you're going to shit most of it out. Can't the same thing be said about protein?

I have one real simple analogy.

For years I see guys curling and benching but never getting any bigger they can do a 10+reps with 135 but can't bench over 225 if their life depends on it.

The next guy does slightly lower reps ranges and progressively increases weight over the years, he is much bigger.

Example A=Friends from home
Example B=ME

Now explain why this analogy works so well?

keeping it simple...............your body responds to the gradual increases in the weight you lift by growing more muscle. if you never increase the weight your body will see no need to grow.

I disagree with you on this. My morning and night shake consist of about 1000 calories and I grow the most like this.

of course you have to get stronger to a point it is called progressive overload, the basic principle of muscle growth

I still never quite understood one thing, and that was, if you can manage to make small strength increases over time (past the 1-3 or maybe even 4 and 5 rep ranges) then why wouldn't you grow even if you ate 2 times a day? I mean, sure you wouldn't be making those strength gains too quickly, but if you are making them, then you'll most likely be growing, I would think.

I think you're making 1 wrong assumption.
That is, that you WILL make small strength gains while only eating 2 times a day. IF you did, that would be great. But you wouldn't, aside from CNS type stuff.

And I'll personally atest to that, having trained for years without being able to afford to eat like I do now.

Cmon...how much do you eat a day? Week?
