Is decline necessary?

I've been told by many that decline is a useless exercise. I myself use to do decline bu stopped after getting no results. Now i do cable crossovers from below... is that the same? Is decline really useless?
I feel that my bench isn't going up because of not doing decline. Is this possible?

Useless? No excercise done correctly is useless.

Are declines necessary? If you're doing flat and incline, probably not. But not because declines are useless, but because they won't add much to a flat/incline routine. But I believe the same is true for any compound chest excercise.

Look at what you have typed...you have answered your own questions.

You quit doing them because you saw no results.

Why do you correlate doing decline with an increase in the bench press??? You need to go BACK to www.elitefitnesssystems.com and read every bench press article...AGAIN.

They're not necessarily useless but I'll never do them again unless once in a while for fun. My lower chest develops extremely fast and gives me more of a droopy pec look which I don't like.

I used to do decline, but i feel that when i do up weighted dips i hit the lower chest in that enough. I try to concentrate on tris when doing the dips, keeping the elbows in, but my chest gets pumped anyway.

I suaully son't decline because I find the movement very uncomfortable as is recruits a lot of my lat to stabalize my should when presing the weight. I also feel a lot of strain on my delts and tris, this is not what I am going for so i prefer lying cable flyes for constant tension at the bottom and top of the movment for pec stimulation...

Flat bench seems to hit the lower chest just as hard as declines, but you have a way better range of motion on flat. I've never had declines as a regular part of my routine and I think my chest came out pretty balanced

Arn't dips the best lower pec exercise?

If u think about it, the movement is almost identical to the decline bench press except your palms are a little closer to together and facing inwards.

I did decline press today for the first time in almost 2 years just for a change of pace from my regular flat and incline presses. I didnt really like. It didnt feel right and I don't plan to do it again for another 2 years. I like to call the decline press the "ego press" because I see a lot of guys doing it just because they can lift more weight then any other pressing movement.

I dont like the decline press cause the range of motion is too small. Plus, i hate having to get the bar off of the rack at such a odd angle. If i ever got a muscle spasm or nerve pinch or something while doing it, i would mash my face in. And i dont even feel it so great in my chest anyway.
