Is cheese ok?

rez

New member
Ive just started on a p=60,f=30,f=10% diet to get cut. Is yellow cheese ok as a protein fat source as it contains no carbs...the mass of tuna is getting to me...:mix:

There are DEFINITELY better sources of fat. I'm sure the fat in cheese is fairly processed. Plus dairy doesn't agree w/ me much these days. If I use any cheese, its soy cheese and not much of it. YOu are better off using flax seed oil (e.g. Udo's Choice) or even extra pure virgin olive oil or something like that. You are following a fairly low-fat diet, so make sure the fat you are using is very good quality.

Just my $0.02.

if cheese is so bad for you, why does it have to taste so good

(and go well on almost everything)

That's what I'm sayin'!!! Unfortunately, that should be a DEAD giveaway.......if it tastes good - it's bad....:(

I LOOOOVE cheese...pizza, lasagna, grilled cheese, manicotti.....CHEESEcake!! Mmmmmm.......:google:

I'm guessing that you meant to type 60%P, 30%F and 10%C?? If your carbs are very limited then you should get as many of your carbs AND fats from plant sources, such as fibrous veggies, oils and maybe a few seeds or nuts. However I don't feel you need to get more than 15% of your calories from EFAs, so that leaves you a little leeway to treat yourself to an occassional serving of low carb cheese, as long as your meat sources are very lean. Otherwise ditch the cheese and eat lots of salmon!

Those foods that you LOVE are a definite NO NO, and not just because of the cheese content :)

You are making me hungry...lasagna is my absolute favorite! Man do i miss it!

If you are truly trying to cut and get lean...dairy is not a great choice to eat....get in your fats like stated above...cottage cheese etc is great if you want to put on mass. I would stay away from the cheese:)

What about Skim milk? Is that ok? I can't live without my dairy...i don't drink much, I only use about 1/4-1/2 cup when making my protien shakes along with ice. Should i cut it out completely!?

For rez, milk is obviously a poor choice given the carb restrictions of the diet. For Audacious, who can say?? A 1/4 to 1/2 cup of skim milk is not going to have a big noticeable impact on your fat loss goals. It's all calories, so you just have to factor that in to your overall diet plan. However I find it pretty strange that people want to add milk to their WHEY protein shakes. Seems like overkill. I find a dash of flaxseed oil in my shakes gives them that creamy mouth feel without the lactose and sat fats.

if you are on a low-carb diet eat all the cheese you want..this summer i was ripped as fuck and got ripped by eating bacon, cheese , and buckets of lard...well maybe not buckets of lard, but i was on a low carb diet

If this is the first time you have ever been on a carb restricted diet,

I ask you to consider over-doing the carb cutting right off the bat. With most women I have worked with (not all, mind you) tightly restricting carbs for more than a few days is counterproductive to weight loss. You are better off, in my opinion, cycling/rotating carbs and saving the tight carb restriction to contest prep time. Otherwise, your body thinks you are starving and goes into fat/energy conservation mode. Do a search on leptin and carb rotation diets for more info.

Not everyone is the same, but until you try some other methods of reducing/restricting carbs I would lay off the very low carb restriction diets. Generally, they make you feel out-of-it and spacey too. If you are overly carb sensitive or cutting, very low carb diets do have a place.

Cheese isn't a good choice at all. Most are high in sodium and don't contain "good" fats. Peanut, safflower, flaxseed oils are all a better choice...
