and it wasn't two miles, more like a mile and half.
and that was under an ideal situation with no noise or distraction.
not an optimal range, more like under a mile for optimal.
and i thought being a sniper was akin to being a ninja, you could be stealthy.
how you gonna be stealthy with a heavy loud gun such as a .50 cal?
i think it's for more anti-light armour purposes as opposed to anti-personal purposes

The gun makes you stealthy, if you're good with it. Sniper stealth is a different ballgame from cqc or non-projectile weapons stealth.

.308's are pretty loud too.........yeah not as loud as a fifty, but you ain't exactly a ninja when you light off a 308. And I'll check to be sure, but I could swear 50's are rated out to just under 2 miles with "good accuracy". But even if it's a mile and half, that's ridiculous!! In the hands of a marine sniper..........you could ace someone in the next area code.

We say our maximum effective range is about 2000 meters, or 1.2 miles. Max range is over 5 miles... I've heard of guys getting 1000 meter shots with a .308.
