Incorporating power lifting

99% of guys on here are just plain old gym rats. i wouldn't categorize any of us as 'bodybuilders'.. in fact i would be insulted if someone called me that cause i have never, nor will ever go on stage in a bikini to show off my body to a bunch of other men. bodybuilding is a beauty contest

as for your question i will say this.. i credit how i look today to my prior 'power lifting' as you call it. that built me a strong base during my teens and 20's. i have a lot of muscle on my frame that is keepable. i also credit powerlifting for my 3 herniated disks too. so if you do want to 'lift heavy'.. lift with control and be smart about it
 
If you want a big, strong and muscular physique you should definitely incorporate powerlifting movements in your training regimen. Squats, bench (close, wide-grip) and different variations of deadlifts.
