Implanon and weight gain??

Hi everyone, new to the board but I know you all have great answers and advice to give. I'm wondering if anyone has or has heard of the Implanon birth control implant? I'm 25 years old and recently had this placed, due to issues with oral contraceptives. It's relativley new, and you keep it in for 3 years and it stops your periods. Anyways, I had this placed in April, and since started back on my workout and diet routine (I was bad and got off track for a while). Since then, I have had the hardest time of my life losing a little extra weight and progressing in the gym. I feel like I am getting stronger, but I cannot lose weight to save my life. I am wondering if this new birth control is making it more difficult to make progess. I have been on almost every type of birth control and have never had this issue. Any ideas?

Welcome! We can't really give you accurate guidance until you post up more specific information insofaras your diet and work-out regime.

Welcome!
Contraceptives are known to make one retain water. My guess is that this is no different. But, yes please post your diet and that might be the reason for your lack of losing weight.
When posting, list everything you eat and drink and the time..

Yea, I figured I should have posted this too, I don't know why I didn't just do it in the first place :)

Ok, as far as my diet goes....I usually get up around 8am, and have a bowl of fiber one with skim milk or plain oats. I usually take some N.O. Xplode and two thermonxe hit the gym. I'll do about 30-60 minutes of weights (I rotate body parts every day and do lots of weight with 8-10 reps). Follow that with 30-45 minutes of cardio (usually the eliptical, but often times I'll rotate the bike or treadmill).

When I get home, I'll have a protein shake, then around 12ish eat lunch. A grilled chicken breast and sweet potatoe or veggies. 2 more thermonex. Around 3ish I'll do either another shake or a protein bar, or sometimes egg whites with fat free cheese.. I eat dinner around 5 or 6, usually either chicken, fish, lor lean turkey, veggies, and sweet potatoe again. A lot of times I'll go to the gym again just to do more cardio, or go on a bicycle ride or walk around my neighborhood. I might snack on something like an apple or something with some natural peanut butter around 8, usually in bed by 10 or 11.

I try to stay very active all day, but sometimes it'shard with my work schedule as I am on call every other week. Sometimes I can't go too far from home when I know I am going to get called to work, and of course with boredom sometimes comes hunger, but I keep my snacking pretty clean for the most part. On the weekends, I will cheat every now and then with the diet, and for the most part have cut out alcohol completley. I'll have a few drinks once or twice a month, so it's pretty insignifigant. And ALL I drink now is water. At least a gallon a day, if not more.

I was married to a bodybuilder, so I pretty much know what I need to do in the gym and for each body part. I also know good things to eat and what's high in protein. Of course I don't eat what he ate, but lots of similar stuff on a smaller scale. I was in and out of gyms with him for a long time so I've been exposed to lots of different routines and ideas on dieting. I've even considered having my thyroid checked, as hypothyroidism runs in my family, however I show no symptoms. I am at a complete loss here. Thanks for your help.

Hi! your diet is pretty good, it just needs a few tweeking here and there.
If you have a meal every 2 hours or so, you wont feel like eating when boredom strikes.
1st, I think you're taking too many fat burners and doing too much cardio, which is counter-productive. Do cardio 4 days a week @ 30-35 minutes (Once a day) don't go back and do cardio again.

Cut out the peanut butter for a while and protein bars. Protein bars have lots of fillers.
A Protein shake post workout is great, but don't have another shake as a snack later on. Instead have a meal of chicken/turkey/tuna with begetables or broun rice.
You're not having enough food. Food is what will raise your metabolism and will help you nurn calories. Clean whole foods that is!

If you have about 2.5g of chicken/fish every time you eat (2 hours)you will be fueling your body at a slow pace, therefore it will burn calories. As opposed to consuming too much protein at one time, which the body has to work harder to digest and store the food for energy.

It's great you're drinking lots of water and cut the alcohol consumtion. It's amazing how much that adds up.
Pay attention to everything you eat and drink. Sometimes we have a little snack of something and think it wont make a difference, but everything makes a difference.

Lastly, I will have the thyroid checked. Just b/c you dont have symptoms doesn't mean you may or may not have an issue with your thyroids. You have to eliminate all the options one by one.

Thank you so much! I have had people tell me that may be doing too much cardio, but as crazy at it seems I really like cardio. I think I do it out of boredom too, because I've been on call so much and not actually working as we have been slow lately at work. I'll start cutting back on the cardio and working on the diet a little more. I appreciate the feedback!

A lot of women blame birth control pills for weight gain, however, I think in 90% of the cases it is a result of 'couple bubble'.

Women go on the pill because they are in a relationship and then the settling in to the relationship and being content happens.

Fatal last words with the significant other that often happen far too often 'Let's get a takeaway'.

:)

Men and small children can make a healthy diet more challenging.

What Thandie and Tatyana said! :)

Making the slightest changes here and there makes a HYUGE difference, believe it or not.
