can someone give me a tip on how to keep my protein shakes from gettin so frothy and "airy"? i always blend them up on the lowest setting but even then the shakes get ridiculously frothy. its disgusting. its like a beer thats all head. help a brother out!

I do 100% whey by optimum nut. I never blend it up. Just water and a spoon to keep it from bubbles!!!!!!

i work in a vitamin store and i asked a professional trainer about opti whey he says it is all crap and to go with bioplex i personally use bioplex it tastes and blends good .

if your not dieting, i found that putting 2 scoops of vanilla optimum, 1 or 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, and a glass of milk in a blender and blending it up makes a very tasty milk shake.

what brand are you using?

i had that problem with the blend i got from protein customizer. got really foamy in a shaker. the guy that runs the company emailed me back about it saying it's the milk proteins that have a tendency to foam, while whey doesn't as much.

i now use allthewhey isolate. almost no frothyness in a blender or shaker. vanilla or chocolate are both pretty good. don't get strawberry though, unless you're really a fan of strawberry whey in general.

Try using an immersion (or "stick") blender on the slowest speed.

I almost stopped drinking protein shakes because that frothyness used to give me stomach cramps like you wouldn't believe. :(

Started using an immersion blender and the problem was solved. I usually make my shakes ahead of time and let them sit in the `fridge for 1/2 hr or so just to let a few of the remaining bubbles settle out.

HTH.

That's why you burp and fart. I use both blender and the stick thing. i never get an upset stomach, and usually I use milk when I'm bulking. 2 cups of whole milk plus 2 scoops of n-large 2, 1 heaping scoop of g-plenish, 1 tblsp of flax seed. if i'm hungry i'll eat 30 minutes later. it's all in your heads.

I could never get rid of all the gas just by burping & farting, I still got stomach cramps. I did notice that certain protein mixes did not set well with me, MetRx being the worst offender. The last time I used it I seriously thought I was going to wind up in the E.R....I haven't been that sick in years. (no, it wasn't a bad batch...I've tried MetRx several times with the same results)

If I'm bulking and not worried about carbs, I use Champion Nutrition Chocolate mix (cheap!) with whole milk, sometimes adding peanut butter or a bananna just for variety. If I'm eating clean and can afford the good stuff, I use Optimum or EAS whey with skim milk.

Either way, I've found the stick blender does help keep the mix from getting so frothy as compared to a regular blender, not to mention they're a lot easier to clean.
