Yeah they are very static. If you fell the tension spread to your lower back then you need press lower back down and tuck your butt up some. This should concentrate all the tension on your lower abs.
wouldnt you kinda want the pressure in your back as well, i imagine it's strenghtening the lower back too? It's a good all around lower torso workout, i used to do them in tang soo do classes like 10 years ago.
