How long to stick with same routine?

Do you guys think changing up a training routine every 6 weeks is too short or is that a good length?

I chage every 12-16 weeks.

Theoretically it is perfect, but I'll milk a program till I do not notice progress any more. Could be a couple weeks, could be a couple months. I wouldn't go longer than 3 months. My .29 cents.

When my progress stales (im not gaining weight anymore) I take a week off from the gym. When i come back i keep my program the same because i concentrate on teh big lifts. Theres not much logic in changing out squats for leg presses or hyperextensions for deadlifts.
I say stay with your program till you cant get anymore from it, take a rest and come back strong

I never change my whole routine at once. I think my whole routine is just constantly in change.

for major body parts (chest, back, legs) I probably do 4 different exercises, minor I do 3.

One of those exercises is pretty much always a constant, i.e. squats, bench, bent over rows, the other exercises, one of them gets rotated out every 6 weeks (or so, nothing exact).....

for example, my leg routine....

Squat,
Leg press
Leg extension
Leg curls (hams)

I just changed in Hack squats for the leg press last week, and my legs were killing me the next day, I'll do that routine for a while and will probably rotate out leg extensions for something else, and then go back and rotae out hack squats after that
