How long should I warm up before working out?

Usually I warm up for roughly 15-20 minutes - I find that this is the time it takes me to move around all of my joints in all directions to say so. Is this time ok, or too long?

there isn't a time limit to warm up.. if you just walked inside and its freezing outside then your muscles are cold.. then yeah warm up longer. otherwise a couple sets on low weight is good.

going into the gym like a gorilla and picking up heavy ass weight on your first few sets isn't warming up. that is just dumb

It is ok to warm up for 15 minutes - as long as you spend them on warming up, and not talking to the other guys in the gym. Usually, I will warm up all of my bodyparts, from head to toes, and this also takes some time, but it is well worth it, because you exercise all of the joints, and you train with confidence.

How ever long it takes you to feel warmed up and comfortable to do the movement. It is very individual. An older guy with injuries might need to warm up 20+ minutes. A young guy in his 20s might only need 5 minutes.

Warm up for however long it takes you to feel ready to perform the movement safely. It isn't a race. It is always better to warm up a little extra and not hurt yourself then over do it. I would rather spend an extra 5 minutes warming up then taking 3 months off from the gym because I blew out my shoulder/knee

I have a bad knee from playing AAA hockey and I warm up for about 20-25 minutes before lifting heavy on leg day.

I do not personally do any cardio before training to warm up. I just start off with 2 sets of light weight for my first exercise of each muscle. When doing cardio I start off with a few minutes of walking.

There are no specifics of how much time should a warm up take. As long as you feel ready for a workout - go for it.

Some people might be okay with 5 minutes, others (especially powerlifters) take up to 30-45 minutes
