Just wondering how long you have been working out. Also, if you compete, how long have you competed for?

I've been powerlifting competitively for almost 8 years now. I never lifted a weight before I took up the sport. I haven't put them down since. :)

I've been at it about 8 years now. I did compete in powerlifting for 6 years, and for the last 2, I have been focusing on bodybuilding. I plan on entering my first bodybuilding show next year.

ive been lifting weights for 7 years. my first real powerlifting meet was august 2002, a bench only meet. my first real full meet, was
in november 2002.

8 years...Unfortunately I have been lacking any training for the last 3 months.

12 years, I also feel I should be a hell of a lot bigger considering the time I have in

I have 9 years in. . .

It takes years to build a body. . .things don't happen overnight unless you are between the ages of 14 and 18.

a little over 2 months now :newbie:. I have to admit, I was feeling a little self conscious seeing pics of you guys and then comparing them to myself before this thread. I really had no idea the years upon years you guys have dedicated to training, I am really impressed. Anyways, it makes me feel a lot better about myself seeing as how I've been training for such a small amount of time compared to most of you. I've got a long way to go, but I guess I should look at it as a marathon instead of a sprint:D

About 7 years. Started when I was 13. Didn't really start gaining until the last few years.

16-18 years old casual weight training.
18-21 years old, kickboxing + general sports.
22-24 years old, sitting on my ass.
25-26 years old, weight training with a lot more knowledge.

So a year and four months of weight training in an educated fashion.

about 9 months
started reading the board before I started training. It's an excellent excellent place to learn about training.

about 6 or 7 years for me

Same here. This board saved my training. I love the training board you guys are great :friends:

6 years total. last year been training harder than ever!:fro:

22 years.

I took a few years off and started up again roughly 11 years ago.

When I first started training, everyone in the gym used to train legs little, if at all.

Workout schedule was

1)Mon~chest and arms

2)Tues~shoulders and back

3)wed~ off

4)Thurs~chest and arms

5)Fri~shoulders and back

6)Sat~legs (maybe) lmfao

7)Sun~rest

My how times have changed.

These days, legs are my number one priority.

:D

2 years in high school (only 1 was good) 4 year break for the Army, then started back at the end of 99' so been about 3 years now.

Began weight training waaaaay back, late in 1983. So, I'm just a wee bit short of 20-years. Bodybuilding mostly, began strength specific training just this year. Strongman training began in mid-December.

Probably fairly consistantly since 8th/9th grade, mostly coupled with football and track... about 13-14 years now? (Also, before that I did about 2 years on the small bench/barbell in the garage, and a little bag work back then too with a uncle of mine) sheesh, I feel old.

I took a couple months off every few years early on, but the last 4 years I have been slacking off but still hitting the gym at least 2-4x a week.... I have been trying to hit it hard again (and smarter) for maybe the last 6-9 months...

10 years...

Wow. You must've been just a wee lass. You look very young still.

I'm at 11 years.

I lifted off and on through college, but not well at all. Been lifting consistently about 2 years now (minus a few months for back injuries), but only really seriously/knowledgably for about 2 months.

I have been training for about 13 yrs. Mostly for sports then a 4 year stint with bodybuilding. Have been serious about powerlifting for about 2 years now. Also I took 7 years off from squats and deads until about 3 years ago.

Cheers,
Scotsman

I've only been training for 2 years off and on but I have really gotten serious about powerlifting /strongman since April. I have been training westside for 10 weeks. I love it and can't wait to see myself a year from now if my growth continues at this rate!!!! :)

I used to walk steps with Pudgy Stockton. Karma for the first person who knows who she is.
She was the hand balancing chick, and she wrote Strength & Health magazine’s “Barbelles” column.

She was popular during the 1940s. . wasn't she a model at one point? She could always be found at the beach. . .at least thats what the magazines show;)

Sofa. . I am truly impressed with your 30 years of training!

I am sure you can still remember Golds Gym in the mid-1970s. . .during the pumping iron era.

Please tell us some stories. . . ;)

10 + years of mixed lifting and basketball.

Now it has been 1 year of solid training and no basketball. I am growing fast. :)

Off and on since 99... I’m going hardcore right now. I gained a good 30 pounds so far this year...believe it or not...33 to be exact :) I have never touched steroids yet and probably wont till I stop gaining weight.
