We try and get guys in a meet asap. This helps them get a little excited about it. After they goto their first meet, they will either do it or they won't. Just get in a meet and get a total -- then you have a starting point. My first meet was in '96, while I was stationed at Fort Knox -- I did a whopping 485sq, 303 bp, and a 518 dl at 220lbs. Hardly good at all, but 4 months later I did my first 600lb squat.
