How do you know how many calories you burn?

u can buy those heart rate watches, i dont know how accurate they are though. but my brothers gf is a great swimmer and she uses it for her training, hers can be used in water and out, but its alot more $ she told me.
 
Damn, here are my results from that calculator, my base metabolic rate is 5120 cals.

5120.3 calories per day is your Basal Caloric Rate. This is:
no more then 170.67 grams of fat (30%) for your Basal Caloric Rate
192.01 grams of protein (15%) for your Basal Caloric Rate
704.05 grams of carbohydrate (55%) for your Basal Caloric Rate


7680.5 calories per day recommended for your Active Caloric Rate. This is:
no more then 256.01 grams of fat (30%) for your Active Caloric Rate
288.02 grams of protein (15%) for your Active Caloric Rate
1056.0 grams of carbohydrate (55%) for your Active Caloric Rate

no more then 154.01 grams of fat (30%) for your Weight Loss Caloric Rate

Nevermind I messed up. Now it says that my base metabolic rate is around 2000 cals, and cutting on 1500 I should lose 1 ibs a week???? WTF during my last diet I was on 3500 loosing 3 ibs a week. I think this calculator does not apply to anyone with a reasonable amount of muscle mass. Steroid using bodybuilders should use "growing baby" as their category. However even then I was eating over a 1000 calories more than they recomended, and losing weight at 3 times the rate that I should be at the lower calories.

I was wondering for a minute about those numbers! You are right, it is kind of a "cookie cutter" program. The more lean muscle you have, the higher your metabolism is going to. That calculator probably has never had to deal with someone with our advanced level of hugivity. It is good to kind of get an idea though.
