how do you judge strength? by total lifted or by bodyweight/amount lifted?

and that would put him on par with mendy, ie make him a world class bencher. so i'd have to disagree. amongst us joe averages a guy putting up 500 even if he weighs 300, is pretty impressive.
i think double body weight benching is impressive, regardless of bodyweight

meh, why do you think that?
i dunno bro, i think i have to disagree...the big guys have more mass and should be able to move more weight.
doesn't mendelson bp 3 times his bw?

No only Kennelly has officially done 3x bw on bench as a SHW.

Look at it this way at 200 lbs and 3x dead is 600. At 300 it's 900 and very few people in history have done that. Now bump up to 350 bw and no one on earth has ever deadlifted that much. Being bigger helps to a point but you just lose mechanical advantage at a certain point.

I have no problem with weight classes because yes the bigger you are the more weight you should be able to do. Coefficients automatically help the lighter lifters. Besides I don't care how many times over your bodyweight you can lift, 1,000 lbs is always going to be more than 600 lbs.

That is a very good point. A 1,000 lb bench is good if you are 200-500lbs its amazing to be able to just hold the weight let alone press it.

Which is why i hope to be the lightest person to hit 1,000. So i can represent us manlets!!!!

example
fatty 350 guy grunts out a 500 1rm bp at my gym (hugge for my gym)
skinny guy, proly 160, can 1rm 315
what is more impressive?
the fatty guy gets more stares and looks and is generally considered stronger cause of the fact that he can move more weight
but the skinny guy, per bodyweight, is moving just as much (around 150 over bodyweight)
so what do you think?

let me ask you a question..

If you saw a 45 yr old man weighing 215 lbs, and 20% bf.. bench press for 5 reps 525 lbs.. would you be impressed??

Or would you be more impressed with that same man at 9% bf and 180 lbs...

I've done and been both.. i prefer the 185 lbs.. after all, i'm not there to impress a bunch of meat heads, now the Ladies, that's a different issue..

strength is NOT exponential, so you cant say its not as impressive for a 300 lb dude to bench 500, just because a 160lb dude can do 315.

525lbs for 5 reps at 180? Damn, you're only practically repping the world record for a raw bench in the 181 class. :eek2:

If you trained for it, you could blow away the world record in a couple of months
