how do you judge strength? by total lifted or by bodyweight/amount lifted?

example
fatty 350 guy grunts out a 500 1rm bp at my gym (hugge for my gym)
skinny guy, proly 160, can 1rm 315
what is more impressive?
the fatty guy gets more stares and looks and is generally considered stronger cause of the fact that he can move more weight
but the skinny guy, per bodyweight, is moving just as much (around 150 over bodyweight)
so what do you think?

More weight is more weight. IRL if you wanted someone to help you push something big the bigger stronger guy is going to be of way more use than someone with a higher coefficient.

Plus the lighter you are the easier it is to lift two or three times your BW.

there are all kinds of rating systems in powerlifting that take into account the amount lifted and how much u weigh. it gives u a score and that way u can compete who is the "strongest" across all weight classes. i personally like this better than raw weight.

They are both important measures. Each of the Olympic lifting weight classes are very competitive and fun to watch, yet the heavyweights are by far the most exciting due to the mind blowing weight used.

yeah i've entered a few meets and know the drill...personally i was more impressed with those in my weight class putting up obsence numbers respective to their classes, as opposed to the heavies

meh, why do you think that?
i dunno bro, i think i have to disagree...the big guys have more mass and should be able to move more weight.
doesn't mendelson bp 3 times his bw?

well i'm 135 lbs, squating 135 lbs. that means wat?
Your weak... thats what it means. But don't worry I'm 217lbs squatting 185lbs for reps. I am also weak. I won't consider myself strong until I can squat 2x my bodyweight.

As for weight it just depends. The 300lb person that squats 800lbs is more impressive then the 100lb person that squats 300lbs. But both are impressive in their own right.

A 300lb guy bencing 500lbs is not impressive IMO. A 300lb guy benching 700lbs raw is very impressive.
and that would put him on par with mendy, ie make him a world class bencher. so i'd have to disagree. amongst us joe averages a guy putting up 500 even if he weighs 300, is pretty impressive.
