If that is true, it may be worth considering, even though of course a natural approach would be better.
You say your friend has always been overweight. Unfortunately, and I don't mean to be crass, people like this often die always having always been overweight (indeed, I can't think of many obese children who ever beat obesity as adults).
I know a guy at high school who got his stomach stapled, and if you see him now, you would think he was in perfect health. It is not necessarily I bad idea
