How do you do it

How do you keep your motivation up?. Sometimes i found my self wanting to give up more now then, then. But how to you keep your keep going?. I need alittle motivation, I been doing it for 3 solid years. it helped alot with sports, and my self confidence.

Bro you either love it or you don't . Even when I have a bad cold and on 2 hours of sleep and worked a 16 hour shift at work, I can't wait to go to the GYM. Try reading Powerlifting magazines when you get free tme during the day, surf the web for powerlifting web sites, pop in a powerlifting tape or go to a meet, surround yourself with it, drench yourself in it and you will want it. Lastly, it may depend on what routine your doing, try Westside, I think one great aspect of Westside is you switch exercises every 2 or 3 weeks, your always changing max lift exercises so it keeps things interesting, your always challanging yourself to get the extra rep each week. While I am at work every 10 minutes or so since I work on computers I switch over to a powerlifting site to read, look at pictures of people lifting or check this board, by the middle of the day I cannot wait to get to the GYM.

Who knows maybe this response alone will motivate you.

And remember when you leave the GYM after a brutal work out and you are walking from the GYM to your car or home or to the train and you pass people look at them and realize that you are a gladiator and that ordinary folk arent like us, we are warriors, normal people do not strap on bench shirts 3 sizes small and try to lift 3 times there bodyweight, realize how different you are and fucking love it.

Peace,
Natural Mike

thats IS a very good response mike!!...you want it bad or you don't,it atsrt with personal goals.set them and break them....some are very competitive and are driven by that....i love challenging myself to reach a goal then wipe it out.it also helps to have motivational people working out with you,but that is what we are here for.... ...:D

Your exactly right Mann, my biggest problem is I am the only powerlifter in my GYM and they all think I am nuts when I do chains, board presses etc. wait till they see me whip out the bench shirt that will be some conversation piece. In fact , I am the only person in my GYM that deadlifts point blank. So I have to work out alone and motivation is a big key there, I am trying to recruit a few heads to start powerlifting, they are interested because of my strength level at a bodyweight of 200. Getting some training partners also helps alot.

Peace,
Mike

Since i moved to indy i am the only powerlifter in my gym. No one can lift shit. Hell when i am reppin 405 people are freakin. So when i shirt up in dec for my jan meet i dont know what i am going to do. I really need a training partner bad. Someone to just lift off for me really. But someone who knows there shit too. And because i dont have competent help in the gym i dont train anywhere near failure. And i am scared to try things i did on a weekly basis where i am from. So i too am losing motivation. But i take old powerlifting usa and powermag to work and try to get pshycd up, and for regular trainng i am fine but what the hell am i gonna do when i need a 600plus lift off on the bench when my shirt is so tight i cant even reach the bar! Or worse what if my shirt rips how long will i be under the weight? Ya i am pretty much fucked when it comes to training. Although lately i am just reppin out each week not trying to go heavy at all. So getting ready for this bench bash for cash in jan should be really fun to get ready for!

You can do it Jay Just stay focused!

I left my Gym for the same reason the guys there were making me LOOSE my motivation!

But thanks to these boards and you guys! I've begun Powerlifting and WESTSIDE!
But I REALLY have to throw a HUGE THANKS to the one guy who has helped me the most

THE MANN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you out there Bro?

Look at yourself in the mirror. You can't bullshit the face looking back at you. Ask the face if you are the best you can be. If you are as strong as you could be. If you are happy with the progress you have made with your physique. I use it as a tool to motivate myself. The face in the mirror has never lied to me. I also remind myself that someone else is training to be bigger, stronger and better then me.

The best motivation of all is the feeling of succes. Let's face it, in the daily life most of us are just nobodys. If we can scrape together enough money to pay the bills doing whatever crappy work we do, then that's about all we can ask for outside the gym.

Your boss don't pad you on the shoulder and complement you with you good work and your two extra working hours last thursday were just considered something that should be expected if you wanted to keep you job. Everybody takes advantage of you, but nobody recognizes your qualities.

But then you go to the gym...

And in the gym you're only as far from succes as you choose to be. Here you know, that if you just do your best, you will experience that deep, satisfying feeling of having succeded. And you can do it again and again and again...

Every time you improve you BP by just 1 lb, you have achieved something that you have never done before. You are now even better that you were yesterday. And next week, you will be even better! And after having improved on your BP, you will put together a program leading up to adding 10 more lbs to your deadlift in 6 weeks from now.

And during every single training session for those 6 weeks, you can feel yourself working your way towards another succes. It's hard work. Hard as hell. But you can do it, because you've got that feeling of succes in your blood now. Can you feel it now?

And if you plan your training right with a rotation between different exercises, that feeling of succes can be there all the time. Everytime you enter that smelly, crammy gym with the raw concrete walls desperately needing some paint, you can feel it. That feeling of you being fired up and ready to do even better than last time.

So you go for it, and after an hour of hard work, you can sit down with the guys and relax. Talk about the aerobic girls next door, the next Mike Tyson fight or why Arnold is just a whimp compared to what you are gonna look like in five years from now. Because you feel good. Your body feels warn out, but your mind is alive. You've succeded again! Damn, you're still a succes!

That feeling is the best motivation in the world.
