try pavel's ladders. though he initially experimented with it for pullups, it could work equally well for any maximum rep effort.

this technique is done well with a partner in a "i go you go" manner. you start off and perform 1 rep. then your partner does 1 rep. then you do 2 reps. then your partner does 2 reps. you switch off in this manner trying to match your partner's reps until one of you cannot perform as many reps as the other. if you do not have a partner, you can simply just take a short break of the approximate time it took you to complete the previous set. you do not want to work up to failure; stop a couple reps before failure. you can repeat the ladder from the bottom (do not go back down from the top). this will allow you to continue performance without burning out. eventually you'll be able to build up to a relatively high volume of work in this manner and you will be able to climb the ladder several times. since you are doing pushups where a many reps are able to be performed, i would suggest using 2-5 rep jumps for each set.

have fun! :)

yes the ones mentioned above are deadly, the i go you go...those are killer.
off the top of my head
1weighted pushups...
2. push up position, go down to half way, hold 10 seconds, down all the way hold 10 seconds, up to half way again hold 10 seonds, up 10 seconds, and so on. These static hold ones are deadly. try em with weights
3. put some phone books or someting on each hand under each arm.try to touch chest to ground, this is mainly for stretching, not really power performance, but if your more flexible it does work mirracles for your pushups.

3. An overall excerises that i found works really well is with a barbell, this is done standing up, take a relatively light weight and hold your arms out parrallel infront of you, then keeping the barbell parrallel extend your arms all the way out and back in, kinda like your throwing an arm punch. all the mean while keeping the barbell parallel, this works wonders for upper body work out, for me anyway.

4. santana t-pushups

good luck...
i'll post more if i can think of any...

i take three of the 4 of the hardest push up ands and rolem into 1 i take 3 chairs 1 in the back 2 in the front with the 2 in front spread , act like your doing a trianlge push up fold your hands in, then place weight on your back go down as far as you can stretch between the chairs hold it for 10 seconds and go up. do as many as u can idoubt u can get 30

Well here are some tips from someone who was in the army. What you should do is have someone time you for 2 minutes (since this is the army standard) and see how many correct push ups you can do. Then onc eyou figure that out try experimenting with the differnt types of push ups close hand wide arm, and regular, the other listed above are also good. Also if you can do some dips it greatly increases your strength in just the right places for doing push ups.
