doesn't matter, just looking for a change of pace

My two favorites are the "Roosevelt" and the "Hollywood Hotel", but I like the history and era of the two. The Roosevelt http://www.hollywoodroosevelt.com/ is located right on Hollywood Blvd. a block or so from Sunset Blvd. and in the area of some of my regular spots, the "Viper room", "Cat and Fiddle", "House of Blues", . Not far from "The Roxy" and "On the Rox" and The "Rainbow Bar & Grill" as well as "The Whiskey". It's also a short ride over to Santa Monica Blvd. and Beverly Hills. Balboa is the shit right now, it's over on Sunset too, in the Grafton Hotel (another good joint). Another good place is "Dragonfly" on Santa Monica http://www.thedragonfly.com/.

The Hollywood Hotel is away from all this a bit but is still close enough for a short cab ride. Also there are higher end Chain hotels and regular chain hotels all over this area as well as clubs and bars depending on what your taste is.

There are also places like the "Bodyshop" awesome "burlesque joint" on Sunset across from the Roxy. The "Blue Saloon" on Lankershim in N Hollywood (short cab ride), The "Star Garden" down from the Blue Saloon, "the Derby" on Los Feliz, the Pussycat Club....It just depends what you like.

Damn, those are all over bro! Just walk a block in any direction and you'll run into one (seriously). One of my absolute favorite places is Musso and Frank Grill on Hollywood Blvd., It's old school and hard to spot unless you are looking for it even though it has a big sign, celebs actually frequent the joint because of this. Great Food! Another was the "Snow White Cafe" But I heard it was taken over by an Israeli mob family (seriously) and was turned into a trendy yuppie type joint. It used to be owned by an actress from the 30's-40's, she used to wear a Snow White costume behind the counter and the whole place looked like the inside of the Dwarves cottage.....Great F'n food too!

I'll try to think of more, I am sure Razorguns will have input as well.

lol damn i've been living i the country for the last year, la is going to be different for me..

sounds like a great f'n time though

Yeah it's great for sure! Always something to do any time of day or night, even outside of touristy stuff. You could just walk around and find all kinds of cool places and stuff. When it gets dark all the "freaks" come out too, and that's fun as hell just to walk around and people watch. I miss the hell out of it. I lived in N Hollywood for 12 years.

definitely going to be in LA for thursday night, checking the scene out. i could careless about the clubs. i'd just go try every restaurant i could find, most have a bar area anyways.

Primativo is a good tapas place in Venice(i think or marina del rey), large wine list, regularly frequented by celebs that want to just be left alone.
Akbar is a good Indian place in Marina Del Rey, good wine list, very good food.
Musso and Frank as Mojo mentioned. Huge menu, landmark type restaurant.

You could stay at the Standard. http://www.standardhotel.com/

honestly the list is exhaustive. what type of food were you thinking?

True enough.....I never really got into the "club" scene there. I am more of a hole in the wall, lower body count type person. I just don't dig the big crowds. Although "Dragonfly" on certain nights is definately something to witness! The first time I was there I was going into the bathroom and because the womens line was the length of the building and the men's was almost non-existant, two girls came to me while I was going in and started to kiss on me, telling the guys behind me that one was my girlfriend and the other was my GF's girlfriend, I used the stall and they used the urinal and the sink, then as a lil thank you they put on a short show for MOJO right there in the bathroom. (good times)

Cat and Fiddle is a real chill place to hang. It's right on the strip (set back so from the street it actually looks like and access way or small alley) with an outdoor bar and courtyard type area and is set up like a traditional English Pub....Again, Great food!

I went to some little hole in the wall place there that had apple burgers, or something like that. I'm trying to remember the name. it was tiny and had just one counter around the cooks, but it was a good little greasy spoon (for your cheat day, of course...lol). I will try to find the name.

I was there with a friend who competed on jeapardy. She got beaten by that guy who won all those weeks straight on there. it was lots of fun, though.

Don't forget to put on your tightest Under Armour gear then hit the Firehouse Grill in Venice.

Hmmmm...

Could it have been "Apple Pan" or "The Counter"?

Speaking of burgers, IMO the best burger in the free world is "Fat Burger" hands down.

Again, you'll have no problem.....There is an absolutely unbelievable Armenian joint on Hillhurst, not only some of the best ethnic food that i've had, but some of the best food period. I never knew the name because the sign is for a photography studio above it, and again you have to be looking for the place to find it. it has an outter courtyard that hides it. It is owned by an Armenian family and the Mom and Grandma (in her 90's) do all the cooking and prep with a little help from the younger daughters and grand daughters. And accessible from the subway.

I would just use expedia or the like to find one....just have it look for the location you want. There are seriously decent hotels all over the place there, seems like every other block sometimes.

Did you try the Grafton?.... http://www.graftononsunset.com/

you guys have some gay usernames

I am impressed that you recognized them as being gay!

You must hear them a lot in sentences down at the truckstop.
Like, "Hey slash, (overtly butch name) I got mojo now, so take that stick outta your ass, come here, and suck deeznuts!"

I am paraphrasing of course, you know your truckstop lingo better than we would.

The moral however is this....
Nobody went down to the truckstop to slap the donkey dick out of your mouth and make fun of your "twinkie" truckstop name, so don't step on peoples threads/posts and make fun of their names here!

Again....very impressed that you recognized the gayness in the names, because I never in a million years would have. But I guess when you hear something over and over while being filled out like an application, things kind of stick with ya.
