Can someone give me a reasonable idea of what each of the following would cost?:

Olympic Barbell + Weight Plates
Power Rack + Adjustable Bench

Also, how much weight is reasonable to get and how many of each plate weight?

Just get the sets of Olympic weights they are cheaper. If you have the room and can afford it, get more than one set so you don`t have to strip weight and move bars around from place to place. 2- 300 pound sets = 200 -$260

I would pay more than the 200-300 proposed for a power rack. and Do yourself a favor Get the bigger power racks. There are like 2 sizes one is deeper than the other. DO NOT GET THE SMALLER ONE. I did and regret it.

You can get a cheap 300 lb olympic set for 100-150 dollars, but the quality is pretty shitty, and the plates often vary considerably from the stated weight. I personally own a York barbell olympic milled set that cost 300 dollars and I love it. The plates are milled to within 2 percent of the stated weight, and the bar is pretty good quality and great for most lifting. If money is no object you can get a top of the line set for like 500 dollars and up, the bars are great quality and the weight is very accurate, but probably unnecessary for the average person.

is the smaller one really that bad? I got the smaller on cause it was $150 cheaper. I figure the only problem I would run into is maybe in squats but I do box squats so it shouldnt be a problem

i scoped this around my area (perth, west australia) and for new i was looking at about $1400(AUS, ~$700US) for powerrack, bench, reg bar + ~500lbs of weights.

the bar/bench was made by parabody. any good?

Well I`m 6ft 3 so I have a hard time staying inside the smaller ones. I have to constantly be aware of where I am more than if it were bigger. When doing Goodmornings squats. etc.

If you don`t have that proplem then it`s cool. NYBarbell.com has some really good prices as stated by someone earlier. and a good selection.

That`s not that bad for $700 US for all that equipment. If the quality is acceptable I`d go for it and start having fun.
