Holy Shit-this inbred won the $258M powerball LOLOL

i feel great for the guy, although this is the beverly hillbillies all over again

At least in that TV show, they were "smart" enough to get a banker to manage their money, and they still lived relatively simple even though they had that big BH mansion.

Something tells me that won't be the case with this genius.

If he was smart he would allocate 10% to blow on whatever-the-fuck right out the gate. Then assign the rest to a trust that he cant have any access to except when the interest payments come around every year then he can do whatever with the interest payments. Thats what I would probably do for myself actually, just to be safe.

But Im guessing if he just read that he wouldnt know what the fuck Im talking about and his head would explode.

See this is what I absolutely loathe these state run lotteries.

99% of the revenue from them come from people exactly like this guy^

Listen to his own report.

"For us it's just going to be a huge relief to know I'm going to be able to pay my electric bill, my gas bill"

"I had bills at home I didn't know how they were going to be paid."

So why the fuck is he buying lottery tickets?

I'm not blaming him. The state lottery commissions spend a lot of money convincing him it's his shot at the dream. The dude has two kids with two different women, to whom he's presumably paying child support, and of course homie's got no front teef, but he's buying $5 lottery tickets. He's worried about paying his utilities, but he's buying lottery tickets.

When some working class or straight up poor person wins they are contractually obligated to be publicized by the lottery commission in order to encourage more people who really need their money for necessities to keep crapping away their money in the future.

I'm happy for him.

You make a great point about people in his financial condition buying lottery tickets. There's also no doubt his success will inspire millions more to waste their money. My best argument against it is that the state shouldn't be in the lottery business.

But here's the bigger issue: It's not our money. It's not my (or anyone else's) place to tell him if he can spend his money on lottery tickets, beer, NASCAR races, bibles, fishing tackle or anything else. It all comes down to relative value. Maybe buying tickets gave him hope. Maybe he likes buying them more than he likes oreo cookies or going to the movies. Everyone's value system is different, which is the inherent genious of capitalism.

Now I shouldn't be forced to support his bad decisions either, but that's another can of worms.

We can talk about people wasting cash on lotto but for this one single dude, looks like it was a badass investment.

I started to address that argument in my first post, but figured no one would be reading it anyway.

You called it "the bigger issue", but I call it the paper thin excuse.

"Well he's going to blow that money anyway, and hey he'll enjoy playing the lottery, so we the government of the great state of [ ] will give him something we'd like him to blow it on"

The fact that unwise poor people tend to blow money they cannot afford is completely irrelevant to the fact that state governments are consciously exploiting their citizenry by encouraging that behavior for their own benefit.

Lotteries are the Poor & Stupid Tax.

I think its great that he won. Even if he does blow it in a few years, which would be hard he won so much, who cares. You guys can blast him about his teeth and call him stupid if it makes you feel better but at the end of the day he won something that if you play the lottery you wished it would have been you. I dont play the lottery although its days like this that I rethink my stance on that...lol
