Help with a PT question

Hi, first time poster.

I've had a personal trainer for about 5 weeks now. She, for the most part, has the knowledge and the drive to keep me working - although I am now starting to be able to do this on my own(and have been on days not with her with success).

My problem is, that she constantly is texting and talking with other gym members during our session. And not for just a few seconds, sometimes for minutes at a time. This adds up. The texting I understand can be work related so I dont mind letting that fly, but the obsessive socializing on my dime really pisses me off.

Before five weeks ago I hadnt been in a gym in 10 years. I'm not out of shape and naturally recover well - yadda yadda yadda - so maybe she thinks she can get away with it because I tend not to need supervision.

How should I approach this?

I'm thinking I should just bring it up and not be rude(not sure how to do either), but maybe there a better way to handle it. Once thing to note is that she trains for contests and actually knows what she's doing(diet, form, the works). So, if I can harness her attention for a sec then this can work.

thanks.

I've been a PT for 5 years and from my point of view, when a person is paying me to train them I don't fuck around On my phone. The Client is the number one person. But this is all IMO. I'd tell her to lay off the phone and focus on her job or your gonna get another trainer. Simple as that.

I was thinking that. I'm just not so sure how good the rest of 'em are at this place. I know she at least knows what she's doing. Say I say something like that and her attitude goes south, I guess I can just switch. It's just that, she's friends with everyone there and that might make things a little fucked. In the end, its strictly business though.

Yea but it's also shitty work ethic on her part. I'm not saying you don't know what your doing but if you start to reach fatigue and she's fucking around on her phone you could injure yourself. I never even bring my phone with me when I'm training someone. All in all it comes down to this; are you paying? Are you getting what your paying for? I would flip out on her but I'm picky as hell when it comes to fitness training.

lol, I totally get what ur saying. I'm quite new at this. I worked out a lot as a kid. Got quite good at it and then stopped. I figured I could pay my way at first as a kick start to getting back into it.

debatable, shes good when shes on(gained about 9 pounds in 5 weeks, but ive supplemented the workouts), but consistency is bugging me(socializing).

I'll probably just bring it up and see what she says. She probably has know idea its bugging me and when I bring it up, she'll just stop and focus on me. Your right about the work ethic part though. I'm sure it bugs other ppl too.

I work as a pt also, when im in the gym with a paying customer, i dont use my phone, and if other ppl from the gym ask me something i just replay with, im free in about 20 min. Come back when im done with my customer and i wil be happy to help you..
Its your time and your money. Just tell her in a nice way. If she listen to you its okay and if not you tell her you are swapping her out with someone with a better work ethic even if they have less knowledge

I agree. Even with someone less experienced you could do better. At least they could in theory be more focused and help you grow and you'll actually get what you pay for.

well, had two sessions since and thought of another way to solve it. I pushed the meeting time from the regular 5pm to 3. I've also applied myself more. This seems to have solved everything and I have avoided some awkward conversation.

Thought I would provide an update. I suspect everything will be fine, but if not I'm falling back on the two of you's advice.

cheers.

Well anything that works bro, you do what you do. I still stick by my suggestion to drop her though. Good luck!
