Help me build my sniper rifle

I was going to suggest him a McMillian Tactical or Barret .50 but both calibers are banned here. He said a sinnper riffle. The Lapua has less recoil and its more accurate. Otherwise I'll stick with my first option, the .300 win mag.

I agree but price would be a definate option on these pieces...I put together 2 for my personal use...Both are Rem. 700BDL's, 1 is a 6mm and the other is for long range varmit shooting(22.250)....Both had the Rem. ejectors and extractors replaced with Sako's, both are completely bedded and free floated, composite stocks, adjustable cheek guards, fluted barrels, (the 22.250 has a bull barrel) and bi-pods.......

For scopes, I have always been partial to Jurntl, but that's me, and they are hard to find, and VERY pricy....I also have precussion mounts on the 22.250......

I enjoy shooting them, and both are nicely accurate.....

This guy makes the best rifles around....I don't know if he has a web site...Name: Clay Spencer

Good luck,

Ranger

.308 is widely accepted as one of the most accurate rounds out there... I think it is most important HOW you break the gun in, and how you match the loads to the gun...

There is a discrete science to it...

What do you mean by break in? You mean the bore? I've heard that barrel break-in is useless.

Again,Why?

I know more about weapons than most of the cops in my town and I'm on great terms and concider them friends. They've asked me many times about loads and calibers and all that.

Think out of what CNN tells you to think,a gun is a piece of metal and plastic or wood, there is no danger until there is intent to injure and that can happen w/ rock, scissors and if your really juiced, paper.

I love my Remington PSS in an Accuracy International AICS.
She wears a Leupold Mark 4 M1 10X Mildot done over by Premier Reticles.
Over-sized bolt knob and a Pod-Loc on the Harris BR bipod are must haves IMHO. Cheap mods that really work.

No, no, no my friend - barrel break in can be key to a long life consistancy. There is one version where you spend a day at the range cleaning the barrel after every shot with a special solvent. When your done, accuracy goes up and the tendancy to foul the barrel is reduced. My father has done this with great results.

here is my 2 cents

get the 700 bld instead of the DM they had a problem with fit and finish of the magazine and it had a tendancy to rattle when used.
get a used one instead of new the new Rem's are having some quality control issues as of late. if your looking for new right now
alot of folks are going with the Winchester Stealth.. it is good to go right out of the wrapper
Scope depends on you requirements leupold 4x14 is popular

caliber depends on your level of handloading if you don't hand load 308 if you do 6.5/284 is current caliber of choice both are good for extended ranges 6.5 doesn't drift as much and is the current choice for 1000 yrd f class shooters.

And seeing that you are canadian your in luck there is a great builder that builts extremely accurate and rugged rigs.

Remington VS SS BD .300 magnum. This caliber is superior to the .308. Flat shooting, high velocity. Very versatile. Otherwise if you're lucky enough to find one go for the .338 Lapua.

BTW what'S wrong with your Parker-Hale ? is a 82 (like the canadian army) or a 85 ? Man thats one fine riffle IMO.

Thanks for all the responses guys!! Karma for as many as i can hit!

My current toy is a Parker-Hale model 82. If you've ever fired this archaic beast, you'll know the bedding has a bad habit of going on it....very very annoying AND time consuming to fix....or you can zero your damn rifle every time you hit the range.

The specs i need are for competition. It's pretty much open to all specs within reason. No .50 cal rifles, no dotted sights etc.

I don't like the lapua.....for price and for the mechanics. It's lower reciever is a BITCH to smith.

I'm thinking of going with the 7mm magnum. I'm also pretty sure I'll stick with the savage 110 LE....seems to be getting a lot better reviews. I fired the exact rigle this weekend and it was a treat! VERY smooth! Free floating barrel, custom stock, Bushnell sight (Budget, i know, but it really did work out at 700m).

NOW i need help picking the sight. The leopold Mark III tactical (8.5 x 50 ) is beatiful...is it worth the coin? Opinions please:)

Springfield arms and Sheppards are well thought of and should be somewhat cheaper. The Sheppards need to be matched to the B/C of your cartridge as they are range finding scopes,(Might not be Kosher it your comps though).

One thing about the Leos,if you run it over with your truck, they'll either fix it or give ya another.Their customer service is unbelievable.

Badger Ordnance Rings and Base
Leupold VXIII 8.5x25 50mm
SKB Custom fit Case
