For any of you who have read my deadlift rant threads, I FINALLY, FINALLY got it!! Before, I always read about deadlifts, and how it was great for your whole back, the foundation of any back routine, ect. ect. I wanted to do them more and more, however everytime I would, I either just wouldnt feel it, or didnt put much into it. I ended up thinking it was good for my lower back and that was it. So last week, after reading through some things again, I decided to just say screw it and try it. I would just play around with them before, using a wheel a piece on each side to work on form, never felt anything. So last week I started out on 225. Did 4 sets of 10. Struggled on the last set. Felt MUCH, MUCH different with heavier weight. The next day I was like "oh my lord my back is sore". Not just my lower back, everywhere. Where my shoulder blades come together, inner and outer lats, everywhere. So you could say I set a PR last week. (LOL since its the first time I've done that weight :D ) Well this week, today, I went at it again, did 4 sets of 10, 225 seemed easy this time. So I did one more set with 275 and got 8!! I think I could have done 10 with it as well, but I didnt want to push it as I was starting to round out. I'm so happy that I finally am able to do these and feel it. Its strange, I hate doing them, but I love doing them. I dunno. I think what it was is my lower back is now strong enough to shift more stress on the rest of my back while doing them. I think my lower back was the limiting factor beforehand. I feel much better now that I got this off my chest. I'm only weighing in at about 177 now and I'm 5 foot 7. I know I'm not able to lift as much as some of the guys here but I'm reaching. This is the FIRST time in my life I've ever really done deadlifts with anything heavier than a hundred pounds, and I'm really happy I'm getting on it.

Great!!!! Keep progressing and working on your form...study...study...study.

I'm looking forward to that...

I've been doing deads and deep squats with lighter/controlable weights, focusing on form and "listening" to my lower back... it's getting stronger and stronger... same with my legs up high near my hips.

for now, rows and deep presses are the still the core of my back and leg workouts, but I'm working towards heavy squats and deads...

oh yeah, I also super-set static bar holds with my leg presses and reverse flys (can't hold the bar when doing rows... forearms give out!) I just load up the bar and stand there and hold it till my it falls out of my hands... back feels great the next day... can't wait to get that on a deeper level from deads!!! :D

congrats on the progress!

Thanks for all the comments guys. I feel these are going to work very very well for me. I love them, I hate them, I dunno. I am really trying to listen to my back as I do them, keeping myself away from rounding and trying to force the load all over. It seems to be working well.

Dude that rocks at your weight for a beginner!!!!

Wont be long and you'll have a double bodyweight max if you stick with them.

Is that really a good weight for my size? I figured I should be doing alot more.
