Guys who've proposed how much did you spend on a ring?

In 1986, I spent $4500 on my wife's ring. Can't remember how big it was but the clarity was up there. I don't know squat about the ratings but if I remember right, the clarity means a lot.

Later I gave her baggettes to go with her ring, I think after the birth of our second child. lol....whatever the blue stones are is what the baggettes were...shit..I can't remember the name of them.

Don't know how much diamonds are going for now.

I paid 3k maybe 3.5, don`t remember but I got it from my jeweler cousin who gave it to me at cost. It`s like 6k if I bought it elsewhere. He came to the house and showed me about 20 different diamonds all loose and told me to pick one. lol He explained the quality and sizes. Some were bigger, like 2 carats but were a lower quality, the one I chose was 1.2 or something, and very good quality diamond. Then he put small ones on each side of the center diamond about 4 on each side. No charge for anythng else, ring, small diamonds, etc. just the single diamond I chose. Very nice.

Then my wife wanted matching wedding bands to go with the engagement ring! lol So we had to get that AND a regular wedding band.

She wears them at formal functions. Not really worth it from a financial standpoint because you never really sell them... 2k would be awesome to spend. everybody`s got a price though.

I actually find it tacky to spend a lot of money on a ring.

Hell I actually find expensive rings tacky in the first place.

Matter of taste I suppose.

If I ever wear a ring it will be round smooth silver, unpolished, and preferably small.
But I probably never will, even if I get married.

sounds like you need some help from a woman. when i was engaged before, we went and picked out ring together. it was 2ct total weight on platinum band. hand a 1ct center stone and 1/2 ct stones on either side. he only paid like 2k for it since he paid cash. you will get a better quality diamond and a much wallet-friendly price if you go to a diamond wholesaler. they can mount it and everything for you. usually they won't charge for the band. or may even give a nice discount on wedding band for her and yourself. good luck man.
