What about the right if people not to get gunned down by large calibre guns, semi-automatics, high-powered rifles, etc?

If the government allows me to own weapons then how about RPG launchers? Why not artillery pieces? I could use some depleted plutonium shells in those.

typical liberal drivel. the most common caliber in an 'assualt weapon' is .223, which is actually a very small round when compared to the rounds single shot, bolt action, hunting rifles use. you can't even go deer hunting with .223

and the second amendment was put in there by the founding fathers as a doomsday clause, in case the government were to ever become oppressive, so the people could defend themselves.

either which way, i am having christmas on sept 14th because the assualt weapons ban is expiring. i have a brand new 'assualt rifle' coming with 4 30 round clips, and i also ordered some 17 round magazines for my glock handgun.

I can't possibly make the arguement for my neighbor having hand grenades... but if you take their intent and the spirit of what they were trying to do... it would mean that he could.

BTW - Define Semi-Automatic and Automatic weapon.

an 'assualt weapon' by the AWB and BATF standards is the following. it is any weapon that possess more than 2 of these properties:

has a pistol grip
has a detatchable magazine
has a collapsable/telescoping stock
has a bayonett lug
has a flash supressor (this is not a silencer)
has a bipod

if it has just 3 of these features, it is an 'assualt weapon' in accordance to the 1994 Crime Bill.

the bill only banned cosmetic features. it would be the same if prostitution was legal only it was illegal for the hookers to wear lipstick, high heals, red clothing, and fake leather.

it was a stupid ban, and i am glad it is ending in less than 2 weeks.
