Oh my word. I can't believe i'm so out of control. I just ate a Symphony candy bar, a huge one, 6oz. and a peanut butter & jelly donut today and the night isn't over yet! I am getting my period soon and this i feel is the reason but i just went off St. John's Wort and it was helping my cravings and mood. The only thing is i found out that that was causing my constipation problem. The herb really helped though alot. I heard alot that this herb can cause constipation even though i'm taking more fiber in like brocalli and flax, fruit. It was a vitamin world brand so i wonder if i had the problem because of a cheaper brand and look for something of higher quality??? I wish i could find something to curb my cravings. What do you ladies take or do to curb your sugar, starch, & chocolate cravings? I took a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter earlier hoping to combat my food attack but it didn't work cause i had my crash w/ this junk. I don't want to ruin my diet and hard work. I'm going crazy and its a real problem.
Any suggestions would be extremely helpful. Would like to get this problem under control once and for all!
Thanks, annie

I know where you are coming from. If my cravings get unbearable at night and I have already had my shake and some almonds,... I boil up a pot af water. i then squeeze some lime juice and or lemon juice into it. I have not heard if it is a good thing or a bad thing to do.??? But i find it helps my cravings as it is putting something in my mouth and because it is warm, it feels like it is filling me up or something of the sorts.??

Thanks Cupid. I finally stopped after the Symphony bar and today i'm having cramps so i popped a couple of painkillers so i know i'm getting it today or tomorrow. The worst part is, i'm lactose intollerant so i got gassy and bloated from my gorge. I know i should stay away from it, but its so difficult. But sometime after eating the bar, i got really silly and couldn't stop laughing and telling jokes. I read alot about that you can get a happy feeling after eating a candy bar but i thought it was nonsense. The candy releases endorphins, happy feeling hormones into your system, that's what i just read in a magazine. It was a big bar so i got my money's worth and laughs too at the same time except i put some fat on. :worried:

try visiting your local low carb store, they have many low/no carb treats minus the sugar. Not sure about the dairy content but its worth a try. Also have you tried the health food store? they have some healthy snack ideas as well.

Well, i lost my will and had more junk today cause my period came. I had a box of Junior Mints, 2 bowls of Peanut Butter Cereal, and half of a packet of Tastycakes. I feel terrible and i took those Lactaid pills but they didn't help. I just wish i didn't gorge and my hormones would get under control. I feel like a cow. It's so amazing how you can blow your diet in a matter of a day when your hormones take over! Does anybody think i could be dificient in a nutrient that the body craves sugar, etc? Is there a supplement that i could take to combat these fluctuations?
Thanks, annie

I have the same problem, don't worry. Usually, I either do REALLY well during PMS or I go crazy. My best advice is don't try to diet during PMS. The deprivation plus the hormones is a horrific combination. Just eat to maintain for that week. Have a couple pieces of chocolate each day if you need to satisfy your cravings. It's not going to ruin you. It's all in your mind, you don't need pills. It's a whole lot easier to start your diet back up again when your period starts if you maintain rather than gain.

You're being too hard on yourself. We all do it. Just pick up and move on and prepare yourself mentally for next month ;)

P.S. I heard somewhere that your body burns an extra 300 cals/day during PMS week... I don't know how true it is, but it makes me feel better if I HAVE TO HAVE THAT CHOCOLATE!!!

Thanks Ashley for your encouragement! This is the first day of my cycle, and i just polished off a bag of hershey kisses! I thought my urges were over w/. I'm soooo out of control but this chocolate isn't giving me the laughs like the Symphony bar did. I can't stop at two or three, i just keep going like the energizer bunny. The first two days of my cycle are usually my worst for pain and bloat anyway. I just can't wait until its over in a few days. Its strange how we bounce back to ourselves, how our moods flucuate and our hormones rage that we can put so much of that junk down our throats and then when its over, its like, who was that? and how could i do that? so gross!

The best thing is to keep the offending goodies out of your house. Somethign like a protein bar isnt' all the dangerous. Does fruit help as a sugar source? (Not as much fun as a piece of chocolate, but somethign?) HOw about those hard candies like a Werthers or one of those chocoloate covered deals - then you can suck on it & get your chocolate fix but it takes longer and not much in teh way of cals / fat , etc.

Oh man, I hear you there! I am practically cripple on the first day of my period. I have a very hard time functioning and somehow eating makes it feel better. The whole thing is very strange, but keep in your mind how easy it is to pound down the chocolate and that it will take at least a week of hard work to get you back to feeling comfortable.

Restrain yourself, please! We don't want another thread from you next week saying that you can't work it off... be prepared for the challenge that results from that bag of chocolate. Work on fixing your attitude about it. No reason to eat a WHOLE BAG of Hershey's Kisses :worried:

Thanx gals for responding. I did better today, my 3rd day of period. I only had a roll w/ cinnamon butter on it. Very yummy though. My cravings are not as strong as they were the day before my period, so relieved. In the past, i had rougher times when the cravings would start a week ahead sometimes and continue into my cycle :worried: That is the worst feeling and most challenging when you are trying to convince yourself not to eat the junk but your hormones are dictating otherwise. I know that birth control pill would help me for the pms but i can't tolerate the side-effects. I just read again about chromium picolonate and that it helps stabalize blood sugars and reduces food cravings. I think i may go on that. Has anyone had any success w/ this supplement?
Thanks,
annie
