Grip Training

OK, the UPS man delivered my Ivanko Gripper today. It would have been nice if a workout was included but no!. I was going to start out doing 3 sets of 10 with each hand twice a week. I plan to increase the tension as the weeks progress. Any suggestions?

ditch the gripper thing.. when i was a freshman in HS, i wanted big forearms, so this seinor told me to hold these 70 pound DB's for 3 sets of as long as i can hold them, 2-3 times a week.. within a month i noticed great results..

so just hold a huge amount of weight for 3 sets of at least 15 seconds.. you will like it..

use the gripper, but dont count on it that much..

TheOak84, you must have misread the question.

He asked how to use the gripper not how to get big forearms

Grip strength does not always equate to large forearms, either.

Satan> I don't have an answer for ya. I have never used one. Wait for B-Fold. I think he has used one. Among some other guys, too.

I have used grippers and do believe that they definately work. TONS of things that you can do.

Sets of 20+
Sets of 10
Little rest between sets
Sets of 5
Sets of 1-3
1/2 reps (the closest 1/2)
Timed Holds (you can even add a piece of cloth between the grips so when your hands open up the cloth falls down)

The gripper Satan is talking about isn't the pink little piece of crap they sell at K-mart with a picture of some anorexic chick on the box.

I use the COC's and do the things that b-fold mentioned. When I do singles to triples I'll use my other hand to spot the last.

Like b mentioned with the timed holds using a cloth, I use a small thin piece of plastic because it doesn't stick to the knurling. This way it falls the instant you let up on your grip.

Drop sets smoke me pretty good. But, I don't know how long it takes to adjust the tension on the Ivanko, so it may not work for you.

How do you like the Ivanko bro? I have all the COC's and I love 'em, but I'm thinking about getting the Ivanko also so I can change the weight in smaller increments.

you can use small increments on your COCs.

take a look at this:

Also
you have many options. increasing the lbs on your strap hold (minor increments of course) and strap hold times

Increasing overcrush times, increasing negative times.....

Have you tried a beyond the range crush? take the gripper one step down from the one you can close.....file off one bottom corner to increase the range of motion. When you crush a normal gripper you feel as if you are stopping short.

Fantastic advice. I will have to utilize this when I get the chance in my COC training. Thank you.

 Thursday night I fucked around and did 3 sets of 10 each hand. Saturday night my hands were sore as hell. I think I will incorporate the timed holds with the 3 sets twice a week to start. Thai, it's easy to change the tension, only takes a second. In two weeks I will change to a 10-8-6-4 pyramid and see what that brings. Thanks for all the replys. BTW, there is a ton of grip websites out there.
