Getting back into lifting but want to do it right

About 6 years ago I stopped lifting & recently, for the last 2months, I've gotten back into it, but I want to do it right.

I've been reading a lot of posts and have adjusted my eating habits to keep my metabolism kicking in. The question that I have is, like everyone else, "am I eating enough and am I eating correctly".

My overall goal is to lose the fat & gain muscle mass while being well defined. I'm 5'10" and have been steady at 200 pounds & have been noticing gains.

My eating habits right now are:

6:30 a.m. - Protein drink & vitamins
9:00 a.m. - Granola bar
11:30 a.m. - 1 Sandwich (ham or turkey & cheese, no mayo or anything), small bag of chips, yogurt, carrots
2:00 p.m. - Granola bar
2:15 p.m. - 5g creatine - Chewable tablet form that's about the size of a hockey puck & tastes like dirt.
3:15 p.m. - Gym
6:30 p.m. - Chicken, fish or something high in protein

Now it seems like a lot of people are recommending a protein drink after a workout & before bed. Which would be more advantageous? Also, should I substitute the granola bars with something higher in protein? TIA

I just started on this board a few days ago, and have read alot.. so dont take my word on it but from what ive been reading and heard, you are totaly not eating nough... Your going from 6:30 at night to 6:30 in the morning with nothing, thats 12 hours of no food.. and then your eating about every 2.5 hrs, but sometimes just a granola bar, not for sure but i believe you may want more then that.. correct me if im wrong as im just starting out here and trying to help.

Hey Dog,

I would add some skim milk in there if your body can handle it. Also add more carbs and healthy fats(oats, brown rice, potatoes, pasta, olive oil, natural peanut butter, salmon etc.)

I dunno what your post workout shake or workout(cardio?) look like but its a must to get a drink down woth at least 30g protein after your w/o plus some simple carbs. Before bed is optional just make sure your getting enough real food before resorting to shakes/granola bars.

You might want to switch to creatine in the powder form I don't know how effective the tablets are but Prolabs Creapure works really good for me. It's pretty cheap too. And works nice with gatorade powder.

Keep protien high and carbs and fats moderate.
