OMG.. U GUYS LISTEN TO THIS ONE. a freind of mine just told me that she read in (i believe it was self magazine) that there are sites on the web PROMOTING this!!! she checked it out and told me all about it. if u do a search for pro-anorexia u will find them for sure. its like a board.. kinda like us here on elite.. and there are all these women who actually support one another. they give tips on best foods to purge and show pictures of women that are all bones. its just sick, i swear. unfortunately there is a girl at my gym that just looks like she is on her way out!! she spends about 90 min. on the elliptical machine. i can barely look at her, its just so sad. ive been dying to say something to her but i really dont know her that well and i just dont know what to say. of course others give her the look and everyone knows whats going on but nobody does anything. she has a boyfriend or husband that comes in to pick her up every night but i really dont know if he helps the situation or hurts it. i dont know what to do either:(

yup, its sad, but as with any disease, until they admit they have a problem, they can't be helped...

unfortunately, it often takes them hitting rock bottom before that can happen... you just have to hope that they're system is strong enough to keep them around when they do reach that point...

KBgrl- i would just start talking to her and become her friend....you do not need to talk about the issue of anorexia at all with her. Talk to her, listen to her and get to know her....Be positive to her and talk to her like you would anyone else you hang out with. That may be all she really needs at this point and in doing that you will help her out in more ways then one.....I cant believe there is a site promoting anorexia....that is flat out SICK and out of control....Giving pointers on how to starve yourself..what has america come to???? Fitfossil-im with you on the victoria secret ads!! Very pathetic, they are right up there with Abercombie, Express, and all those runway models you see on the E channel. And Abercombie just started to make 00 size pants and stuff!! 00?????????? Ok that is a fuckin size??? Makes me so angry, cause these young girls are faced with so many pressures and society just does not help what so ever!

I did the search you suggested KB- 233 sites for pro-anorexia! Some even have anorexia jokes! SICK!!

Size 000? Where does it go next.... negative sizes???

To make matters even worse, sometimes the parents know the truth & do nothing to help...ex: the girl that worked for me... her mother came to see me after the girl was hospitalized for the 3rd time in 2 months...admitted knowing her problem (along with the anorexia/bulemia came tears in her esophagus lining, bulging eyes & broken capillaries around her eyes, heart palpitations, and chapped knuckles from cramming her hand down her throat)...said she wanted her daughter to get the job at my smoothie/ supp store because it would be easier for her to throw up smoothies than real food. At that time, the mother also admitted being a bulemic.
Fit- I love Anja Langer! Always wanted to see her make it big.

Thanks for sharing, ladies. :)

I googled Pro-ana and got a number of URLS. Most of them have been taken down--angelfire will no long support these types of sites and a number of the grrrl groups have taking kind of vigilante action (providing cut'n'paste letters to send to AOL etc.)

Some of info was so convoluted though--you know, food with negative calories and to do at least 15 minutes of exercise a day....

I realize it's all about control but so's body-building. Lifting is so much more empowering than eating lettuce smeared with mustard.

It makes me sad, though. When I was a red-hot 'libber in the 70s, I never dreamed women's choices would come to this.

Here;s a link to a forum where the posted comments will astonish and sadden you guys. I've seen some kinda scary posts here, but nothing like this:
