Gaining Weight... JM Blakely style

when i was 12, ponderosa had an all-you-can-eat steak deal for 9 bucks. i weighed about 150 then. the last night i had that i had (9) 6 oz. steaks. that's what, 54 oz of steak? i also had about half a pizza before that, and ice cream afterwards. talk about a stomach ache.

Did you read who wrote those things??? Just curious...it wasn't me.

My blood pressure is below normal actually...and my cholesterol is good also. I am in VERY good health, there aren't many 290 pound men who can play soccer for over an hour straight against men who are 1/2 their size.

I am a competitive athlete, only other competitive athletes will understand. I don't expect most people to ever understand why I do the things that I do to succeed because 99% of the population never will. They haven't been in my place and they probably never will be.

The same people that compliment me on how good I look, the amount of weight that I have gained, and the strength increases that I constantly maintain...do not want to accept the fact that you must give up one thing for another.

i definitly understand. im about as competitive as they come when it comes to athletics.

your right most people will probably never be in your place. im amazed how you keep making gains off of such a few amount of sets.

i asked about your health because i remember you posting a while back about you werent shure if you were going to be able to keep on competing against your doctors orders or something like that. and you never explained what it was. sorry for bein nosey

GOOD POST!

Just one question...Whats the reason for eating alot of Mayo:confused:

Sorry if this is a dumb question....:(

I don't think it is a dumb question. I went to my fridge to look at the nutritional facts and it makes sense to bulk with something that has 100 calories/tablespoon. 20 tbsp=2000 cals. These calories come from fat but that's not a issue when bulking.

I'd like to add that JM goes a long way toward burning off those cals, and he's not exactly on a "slow gain program."

He rocks something vicious, that's for sure...but as you can see, he's no tub of lard for all he eats.

Mayo, nuts, other calorie dense foods allow you to eat more cals in a smaller quantity...or just eat more overall. Carbs and protein have 4 calories per gram, and fat has 9 !!!!! Over twice as much. So fat dense foods (like mayo and nuts) will have more cals by default. Don't forget that you can eat calorie dense foods that are GOOD for you, and it will work just as well. A 2.5 oz bag of pistachios has more cals than a Hershey's bar, and it's filled to the gills with good for you stuff too.

I know we're flippant at times here about eating as much as you can, but just be careful. I've just come out of 6 months of hell with my digestive system.....not much fun.

Taking in thousands of calories will place enormous pressure on your whole digestive and bowell system.

Just use common sense.

WoW!!! He looks huge in that picture.

I know JM frommy mgaazine days and he is a great lifter and writer. I did however really have a problem with his weight gain plan. Candy bars, soda, mayo and peanut butter. Not the kind of weight I want to gain but his goals and mine are certainly different. Eating is a full time job for him to stay in the 275-pound range, he has some kind of stomach problem if I remember right

The fact that someone can eat mayo, candybars, pizza etc. crap all the time and not be a fat house doesn't mean most people can do it. Eat like that for 20 years and get ready for some heart surgery.
