Fruit after a meal. Good or bad?

What do you guys think about eating fruit after a meal? Sometimes I like to eat an apple after I finish my lunch. Should I stay away from it because of the sugar?
Any advice would be great.

It depends what your goals are but for general health fruit is great. I wouldn't limit fruit consumption. The more fruit you eat, the less junk you eat. :)

That's what I figured. But I read in different places that eating fruit after a meal isn't good cause its simple sugar and it will stay in your stomach longer and ferment.

I've heard the best time to eat fruit is on an empty stomach. Allowing it to fully break down. Dunno if its true.

Hi Roth

One or two pieces of fruit a day is fine. The sugar in fruit is a monosacharide and breaks down quickly and easily in the digestive system. An apple is about 70-90g and only contains about 60-80kcals, so that's a lot of fibre and not much energy content. don't forget there's a lot of nutrients in fruit too: Anti-oxidant vitamins, and minerals.

I tend to eat one piece of fruit on non-training days and two on a training day, right after my workout. This elevates my blood sugar levels nicely and helps secrete insulin to shuttle carbohydrates to muscles after lifting. That's just one way of looking at it if you're worried about the sugar and kcals. And Headholio is bang on about it being a good and filling replacement compared to other snacks that are loaded with crap.

Depends on the fruit. Bananas and cantaloupe are good choices.

Almost every meal I had in Asia they served fruit after the meal. Asian's are much skinnier than Americans. I say it is not bad.

I would avoid watermelon, grapes, raisins.
