Forearm pumps. Use straps & work forearms separately?

I am currently on cycle and did back yesterday. The forearm pumps were so out of control I felt like they ruined my workout.

Literally after my 3rd set of bb rows my forearms were throbbing. And I still had a long way to go. The rest of the workout suffered and I would have to regrip constantly or shake out the pumps after every set.

I have never used straps but have been considering it lately for deadlifts and now back day. I want my forearms to stay on pace with the rest of my gains but I don't want them to hinder my workouts either.

Is it worth using straps and setting aside additional time to work forearms? Outside of that, any tips for minimizing pumps?

thanks for the feedback

I would not use straps on a exercise like deadlifts.. you might try going heavier than you should and injure something. Add reverse curls to your bicep training and do some heavy farmer walks and build your forearms up more. I would not use straps

I disagree, straps with your deads an barbell rows is fine but don't use them on anything else for your back day
You aren't going to injure yourself by going too heavy as long as your form is good not to mention that straps only give about a 20-30lb bump on deadlifts which isn't a substantial difference

However your forearms are still going to get pumped straps or no straps, just because you use straps doesn't mean you aren't using your forearms, it just gives you a little extra assistance

If your sole purpose of straps was to take your forearms out of the equation then don't bother with them, but if your purpose was to pull some extra weight then go ahead, eventually your back over powers your grip anyways

Id rather not use straps and get some big forearms. thats jut me though he said himself he doesnt want his forearms to lag behind, not using straps on heavy lifts is alot better for forearms then hitting them by their selfs

I agree with you training them separate is worse
My forearms are still growing nicely though despite my strap use on deads and barbell rows so I guess it just depends how your genetics are

The only reason I use the straps though is so I can focus more on my form and the squeeze (particularly on barbell rows)

But Evan is right if you are worried your forearms are going to fall behind don't bother using them

The comments are greatly appreciated.

I hear guys using taurine to control back pumps while on cycle. Are your pumps something your experiencing because of AAS?

I'll give taurine a shot, thanks.

I assume AAS is playing a role. The last time I ran tbol/test I truly thought my biceps were going to pop at the end of each set. Seriously, it was borderline painful...but fucking awesome of course :) test/tbol is what I am running now so it's very likely I'm getting the same thing.

You're running tbol aren't you? What's your experience been so far?

This was my thinking. I do not want my forearms to lag behind, but I would much rather hit my back @ 100% and my forearms @ 50% than vice versa. I'll try to makeup the forearm difference at the end of the workout if needed. I realize this is not ideal, and hopefully the taurine and focusing on a relaxed grip will solve the problem.

pumps are a great thing.. they feed your muscles with blood and nutrients, however if they are crippling your workouts you need to tone them down.. you need some taurine... n2guard has it covered

Didn't realize n2guard had taurine in it, I have been planning on ordering some in a couple weeks once I polish off my cycle assist. Thanks
