For those of you who TRAIN in the MORNING......

My work schedule just got changed for the first time in about 3 years. I will have to workout in the mornings before work. The good thing is I am looking to start cutting and bump my cardio up and this way I will be able to get it in first thing in the morning. Only question i have is this: If I am doing cardio first thing in the am around 7:30, which has to be done at the gym, can I lift right after that or should I go home and have a shake first before heading back about an hour later. I would have put this in the training forum but this will effect someone on a cycle different than natural.

Id like to see some solid responses here because Im not too sure how to go about this, I dont want to ruin my cycle by not training properly. I have never had to train in the morning so Im not sure how my body is going to react, plus trying to get in about 40 mins of cardio first thing in the am.

If you have the time I would do cardio first thing, eat, and then come back to train...if not I would eat, train, then do cardio, then eat again......

Alrighty here we go. Just to let you know, I get up at 4:15 AM and get to my local gym at about 5:00AM. This is how i work out, mon-sat. There are MANY advantages to working out in the AM. If you can get yourself up and moving you have ALOT more energy than you would think you do. And instead of waking up to go to work, you get to look foreward to going to the gym and getting that godly pump. Now, on to your question.

I do not do cardio in the morning, but my workout partner does. He has found, what works best for him, that if you get a hard pump and go home and do seomthing else like to eat, planning to come back and do cardio is really difficult. After that AM workout sometimes you will feel drained, but sometimes you will feel great! If I were you I would continue your regular routine workout, dont change anything about that except maybe if you completely drain yourself in the workout to not (save a little energy). As for the cardio, I would take a small break, 10-15 minutes, to help recooperate some, and then do your cardio. If you feel comfortable take an ECA or carb-up shake and wait until it kicks in to give you that little extra UMPF. I've given various people advice on the AM workout and they are enjoying it. Let us know how you like it if you choose to do this!

i workout in the morning. i lift first then do my cardio. cardio drains your energy too much to lift. like it was previously stated, if you have enough time, just run, go home and eat and come back an hour later to lift

He hit it right on, but the reason I didn't recommend it is because sometimes people have trouble making themselves go back, if they get somewhat relaxed and get lazy.

Another benefit of hitting the weights before doing cardio is that intense weight lifting will use up a lot of energy in the form of glycogen. Which means that once you are up to your cardio you glycogen reserves will be low and your body will have to use more fat for fuel.

I used to do a cardio split when working out.

Light cardio prior to working out. Just enough to start getting a decent sweat going and then hit the weights. When done lifting, I would do the rest of the cardio post workout. That way, you are not draining your body and going catabolic before lifting.

I workout at 400 am too. it really helps me through out the day. I have lots more energy. And as stated before your glycogen levels will be low and youll use or "burn" more fat in the am.
