for ones who workout before work...

What motivates you to get outta' bed that early and go to the gym? I feel horrible if I don't do it first thing in the morning...feel like I've wasted my whole day...but yet i DO NOT wanna' get outta' bed at all that early in the morning...I love my sleep...

I'm SO jealous of people who can work out before work. I start work at 6:30 every morning and have a half hour commute. My gym is 15 minutes from my place and opens at 5:30. The math just doesn't seem to work.

Every once in a while I'll set my alarm for 4:30 am to go running. I've yet to actually get up then and do it though. I need sleep and enless I'm going to start going to bed even earlier than I already do (which is usually around 9ish) then I'm just going to have to work out in the afternoon. :bawling:

Well, I don't have to be at work until 8:00, 30 min to work, but my gym is in the same complex area as where i work so no biggie there...it's just the getting outta' bed at 5:00 or 5:30 that I can't seem to accomplish.:)

For me it's enough motivation knowing that I am making THE MOST of my cardio time by being there in the AM.

Honestly, I would only work out in the AM when cutting. There's really no added benefit to lifting first thing, so I prefer my extra sleep in the am.

In my opinion, it's just like anything else, suck it up and drag yourself outta bed until you have formed the habit, and then the bod's on autopilot.

VDL :D

I do it because of time constraints..

I do cardio in the morning so i get it on an empty stomach...plus then doesn't make my workouts so long in the afternoon if i've already done cardio....

i get up at 4:30....do an hour of cardio.....5 days a week....do weights 4 days a week....and don't do cardio on leg day or off day... i have to be at work by 7:30 and have a 20 min commute...luckily my gym is open 24 hr and is 5 min from my house...

plus i am married with a little one who is 6...so like to keep workouts efficient in afternoon....and since i try to make my weight days work out so 2 workouts are on Sat & Sun...that only gives me two afternoons that i have to be in the gym....

2 Showers Daily???

I only do it in the am when I'm teaching... then my motivation is
1. A lot of angry members if I don't show
2. Possibly getting fired!
-Easy enough to get up & get there for me :)

But those who do an AM cardio & PM weights (or vice versa)... what about having 2 showers a day?

Eh, maybe I'm just a weirdo (OK, I *am*), but showering is just a tedious hassle IMO.... it's enough of a pain doing it 1X per day, wouldn't want to do it twice. But then, my hair is kinda long & very thick... needs tending to.

ohhhh im soooo with you on this...

I used to go every morning before work, and its damn hard to get yourself out of bed that early when its freezing and still dark out!!!!

my gym opens at 6am, well there was this crazy lady who used to go every morning, and if they didnt open the door at 6:00:01, she would go nuts. She would then run as fast as she could to the tradmills and start running like there was no tomorrow, while in an electric blue unitard and curlers!!!!! Same outfit every day. Well I am happy to say they kicked her out....probably a good thing, otherwise she would have been killed by a staff member...

I have more energy and I get a better workout when I do it first thing in the morning. I get up at 5am, fix a cup of Bustelo, some egg whites, a shake, my supps and I am off. I'm more energetic throughout the day too - except on leg day.

back in the day i would wake up at 4AM and train. im not sure what motivated me to do it. when my alarm went off i just popped out of bed because i knew if i didnt i would HATE myself the rest of the day. i would get ready with my eyes closed and once ....drink some water and i was off!. i would walk to the gym so once i was outside i was ok... especially in the winter... FREEZING!!...that will wake anyone right up!!

after i while i started to train with someone which made it easier cause i HAD to meet someone there at a particular time.

i would train in the morning b/c i HATED to train after my day was done.... i was so tired when i got home i just wanted to relax... i did have the time to go to the gym in the PM but i prefered to do it in the AM.

I do it in the morning and it makes me feel great all day. Now it's become a part of my routine just like brushing my teeth, but I'm still glad I only have to wash my hair once for the day. After work, I don't want to go ANYWHERE but HOME!

ahhh ha ha ha ha :lmao:
Yeah... we've all seen her. She takes aerobics classes, stands in the front doing goofy stuff throwing off the concentration of the instructor & griping about everything from the routine to the speed of the music to the volume of the microphone. If only I could kick these ladies out!

Regarding energy after work... I sit in a cube behind a PC all day (shhhh! You don't see me here right now! he he) so I can't WAIT to hit the gym at 5:00. I'm absolutely ITCHING to go *move*... so I guess I'm the opposite. It feels odd to me to go straight home after work.

Been working out at 5am for about 10 years now, I train at home so that is a plus, it use to be hard to get up, but i've been doing it for so long I can not wait to get up and train. Some days I wake up before the alarm and just get up. I love it..no better way to start the day!

I've also been getting up at 4:30am to get to the gym by 5-5:30am. For me it just makes sense. I feel great all day, but admittedly it's not always easy. But the one thing I know is that with work and other life disturbances it would be even more difficult in the evening. I don't necessarily have a set time to work, get in or leave. For me at that time of the morning other than my own laziness I have no excuses not to go, whereas in the evening I may have to work late, bad day, traffic, etc.

I can't do a whole workout in the morning, but I try to do enough to get my metabolism going a bit. I typically do 100-200 crunches, 100 pushups, stretches and other calisthenics, and so on. I might do a couple sets on the bowflex. If I really really feel ambitious, I might go running.

The two showers....not a problem...

cause i go back home after cardio in am and shower & wash my hair....then after weights in pm....just shower....don't wash my hair.....cause i'm just gonna throw it up in a ponytail the next morning to do cardio....

and i have long, extremely thick....naturally curly mop....no way i'd wash it twice a day!!

I'm everyday @ 4:30 to be at the gym by 5.

If I did not get all of my clothes and food ready the night before I would never go to the gym!!!!

Also, the gym after work is a damn MEAT RACK!!
