I have a bunch of tribute videos in my blog and "music" section on myspace page as well as in the movies section. Since veteran's day is tomorrow I thought it appropriate to show respect for the fallen.....the real heroes...

With everything going on these days I really don't think the WWII vets, like my father, can never be fully appreciated. My father enlisted right after Pearl Harbor and his ETS date was in 1948. He was a navy corpsman who served on Tarawa and Iwo Jima, every marine knows those locations are hallowed ground. Respect for all who have served and more for those who made the ultimate sacrifice......

He was always "old school," a god and country kind of guy...very straightforward. He passed several months ago but he enlisted right after Pearl Harbor and ended his time in 1948. I never really understood what was going on with him and all these marines who wanted to meet with him while I was growing up. I later understood they were the marines he served with. He never once asked for recognition, he did what he did because it was the right thing to do....I didn't even know he had three purple hearts until after he died a few months ago and read his record of service and helped mom put together his small space in the local paper. I was privelaged to speak at his funeral. According to mom, he was "the catch" for all the ladies. My mom met him through his second job fixing the machinery at the factory where she worked. My mom was 39 when I was born in 1971 and my dad was ten years her senior, they dated for six years before getting married. Everybody thinks I look like dad....I have pictures and links on myspace.

When I enlisted in the Army my mom freaked out but my dad never objected and she says that he always told her how proud he was. I would consider myself lucky to be half the man my father alway was....

Props to you JG My family doesn't seem to have a strong military history -- I know my dad's dad was the Port Authority in my hometown back in the day but I'm not aware of any service time. Mom's dad served in the Navy at the end of WWII. I don't think he really saw much action but he was there. The one consistent memory I have of Veteran's Day as long as I can remember is that he & my grandmother had those little red poppy boutinieres. I havent' seen those around in years except for in their little town.

Like they say - Never forget. That's why we are here today able to bitch about the things we do ...
