floor press weight

endpoint

New member
My floor press seems relativly weak compaired to my standard bench.
It is a movement i dont feel right doing......i feel so powerless.

I do it completely flat (legs down)

how do your floor presses compair to standard bench?(percentage and otherwise)

now that i see it as a week movement,,,,,,im gonna hit it harder

havent done floor presses for very long but am about to start back into using it as part of my routine. Always found i was stronger on floor press than bench tho.

Took me a while to get used to the movement, every time my elbows bottomed out i thought i would lose the weight, but i got it in the end. Best i did was about 20 kilos heavier than my normal bench (not outstanding i know but its getting better)

I wouldn't concern yourself too much that you can only use lighter loads in your floor press. There are psychological factors that come into play...as well as proprioceptive differences from the bench press. I usually work between 60-75% of a contest lift with no shirt.

I tend to do somewhere around 30-40lbs less on a floor press than I do on my usual 1 RM on bench(touch n go). Now for some reason when I pause for a second on floor press, then I pause for a second on a regular bench(pause bench) I can do more on a floor press, Sup with that????

it's just a wierd movement. as long as you continue to beat your PR i wouldn't worry about how much your lifting compared to the max.I'm aroun 20-30 less than my max on floors but its still goin up.

I am around 50 or more less then my touch n go flat bench. But since my shoulder injury in sept they hurt like hell when i floor press. or come in close on anything. I am not 100% but i think you sould be around 70 to 80 % of your 1 rep max on the floor. I have gotten to the point were if i am not flat benchin I am strappin green bands on everything. I love them so much! All exercise like floor presses, board presses, Jm etc, are all my favorite bench accessory exercies but throw bands on them and there that much better! Dont use chains, but i am sure there better for floors i would imagine.

I thought that I shoule do more on the floor press than my bench but when I do the floor press, the bar actually touches my chest, so I do not have any shorter of a stroke on the floor than I do on a flat bench, I just lose the leg drive, and have to pause.

I am probably about 30 to 40 lbs less on a floor press than my shirtless max, I am estimating on this because I never max on a flat bench without a shirt. My right shoulder has some lingering problems from baseball, and it doesn't like max weight flat benching without a shirt.

Just beat your last p.r. every time you lift or go till you fail a weight and you will be fine.
